Good morning, Myrl... if I recall, the California State Fair is a really, really big "deal" as state fairs go. Will you have a chance to attend?

Barbara Todaro  - Our State Fair use to be the first week in September when I was a kid.  However, in later years kids began returning to school from summer vacation earlier, and I think it impacted the scheduling of the fair.

Nina Hollander - The California State Fair was a mere 8 blocks from my childhood home.  As a kid, I often attended every day that it ran.  In more recent years after they moved the fair site to CalExpo here, I haven't attended as often.  Perhaps I will this year though.

Roy Kelley - Thanks!

I haven't been to a state fair in many a year, Myrl. Or even a county fair for that matter. My favorite used to be the exhibition gardens and floral arrangements--so inspiring.

Hello Myrl - while I have visited various  California county fairs I have yet to attend the state fair. Nor have I ever been to see our legislatures in Sacramento. Hmm think of the cross-marketing possibilities. . .

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat - I am sure this will be a fun time even during warm weather.

I always wondered why the fairs in CA were during the warmest time of the year. LA County Fair was in September.  For years, it was one of the biggest but Orange County took that distinction over. My guess, it is closer to the beach!

George Souto - I often think fairs belong in autumn when the harvest comes in.  With our State Fair which showcases various counties the harvest or the county produce is often presented.  However, something is always growing in California.

Brian England - When I was a kid, if I wasn't at the swimming pool, it was because I was at the State Fair during it's run.  And, then there were the movies every Saturday - a double feature for 14 cents.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel - I remember one special fair day when a rancher allowed me to help sheer a lamb.  I loved it!

Lottie Kendall - I remember the "Hall of Flowers" with the waterfalls and streams.  I liked it especially on a hot day because it was cool inside.

Michael Jacobs - Well you make a good point, both the fair and the legislature offer a carnival.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - Here in California we refer to that hot weather as "State Fair weather."

Myrl, your post on your California State Fair in Sacramento brings back lots of fun memories of all the State Fairs I have happily attended.  My favorite:  the carnival rides! My sister, Kay, and I would run to ride after ride nonstop.  Oh, the laughter, the fun, the screaming...

Myrl Jeffcoat - I have never experienced any State Fair. It sounds like good old fashioned fun with lots of familiar and exciting things to see and do that I believe would be very enjoyable.
