This summer I will be visiting Donegal in the North West of Ireland, the place I grew up. Donegal is one of the most beautiful places in Ireland with lots of natural and unblemished landscapes. If you are thinking of taking your family or friends to Ireland, why not take a short trip to Donegal.
In this post, I am going to show you some of the best attractions and buildings to visit in Donegal.
Oakfield Park is set on an 18th century Georgian Deanery with award winning gardens. You can take a trip on the steam train, that will bring you through the landscapes, view the lakes and the mature woodlands.
Buffers Restaurant is also one of the best places to eat in Donegal which is located in the heart of Oakfield park
Glenveagh is a beautiful national park in Donegal that has a mystical castle with views along the lakes and mountains. A popular place for tourists and photographers, there is a nice visitor centre where you can learn about the history of the castle and the grounds.
The gardens surrounding the castle is home to lots of tropical plants from near and far.
Ards Forest Park
Ards Forest Park is located at the most North Westerly point of Donegal. Set in a large forest, there are lots of walks and trails for visitors to enjoy.
There are lakes and beautiful sandy beach to walk along or to go for a swim in the clear blue water.
The lighthouse at Fanad Head is one of the coolest sights that you will see. If you are into photography, then this is certainly a great photo opportunity.
There are tours of the lighthouse which helps to give you an insight to its workings and you can learn about the history of the lighthouse.
I hope you like these photos used in this post, but in actual fact, they probably do not do these beautiful places justice. Again if you are visiting Ireland this year, you should consider checking out Donegal.
