Nuta Kotlyarenko was born in Kiev back in 1902. To escape the dictates of Czarist Russia his parents sent him to America when he was 11. Once he arrived in the States he crisscrossed the country working as a shoeshine boy and a boxer. He met and married Helen in 1934 while living in Minnesota, the couple moved to New York City opening their first store.
In the early 1940’s the couple moved to California, where his fame took off. He died in 1984, he was 81.
What you may not know about Nuta is that he is better known as Nudie Cohn, he was a tailor made famous by his rhinestone-covered suits. His first famous person was Tex Williams, followed by Porter Wagoner, Elvis Presley, Hank Williams and Robert Redford, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans to name a few.
