Ah To The Ides Of July

On The Fifteenth

Ah To The Ides Of July  Perhaps it's a case of being dissatisfied as merely the seventh month of the year.  Or maybe July has an inferiority complex-of-sorts about being known as not much more than the place where the United States holds its Independence Day celebration year after year after year.  Who knows how these things start?  Or why.  Without special commemoration of certain days would we even notice?  Kinda like a tree falling in the forest when no one is around?  Why not claim July 15 as a very special day if we want? I mean it seems "special" days are a given.  Kinda like a participation trophy.  I digress...

No longer doomed as an "also-ran" to March with its own and better publicized "ides" event(could it be about that "go fund me" effort?  Who knows?  And maybe a more accurate query "who cares?"  ).

Let's look at the things that might rate as historic(or perhaps a bit hysteric) as they relate to July 15:

  • In 1876 the first no-hitter occurred in a baseball game where St Louis defeated Hartford on this day.

  • The first airport hotel opens at Oakland, CA in 1929.

  • That famous holiday movie "Die Hard" is released on this date in 1988(in limited release). It seems somewhat appropriate that a film some describe as Christmas-themed should be a July release.  Grab some egg nog and hum  "Fa La La" if you like for more impact.

You can make today extra special with a salute to a moment in history(see here for more information about July 15 if you like)'   Or you can believe that there is a celebration in anything/everything.  Here's to you and to all the fifteens in your life whenever they occur.

Hi Michael- I think we should celebrate if for no other reason that one of my all time favorite movies...Die Hard which begat Die Hard 2...all the way to A Good Day to Die Hard, although my favorite is Live Free or Die Hard which has one of the best action scenes towards the end involving an F-18 (or whatever the number is)

I digressed, didn't I?  Oh yes...July- Were it not for Wimbledon, baseball and the Tour de France, it would be sort of a place card holder, like the people who sit in the celebrity's seats at award shows when they have to excuse themselves.

Too much coffee??

James Dray - equal opportunity observation of sorts might be the best way to honor each day.

Barbara Todaro - and the dog days of August are quickly approaching...Stay cool and show off that tan!

Peter den Boer - and being "present" is what is important.

Nina Hollander  - thank you for those kind words.

Wayne Martin - and no need for the snooze alarm either.

Wayne and Jean Marie Zuhl - Yikes!

Sheila Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 - definitely an important reminder and a great current event piece of trivia too.

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty - is that time to put another candle on your birthday cake?

Alexandra Ron and Alexandra Seigel - so many reasons to celebrate.  Put on that party hat!

Kathy Streib - I didn't realize the extent of your "Die Hard" knowledge/love/obsession-of-sorts.  You see, as you know, I also digress...

Hi Michael Jacobs well I for one am celebrating today July 15@@  I needed to put a new plan in place for one that fell flat after a bunch of chaos and more chaos. I woke up, pondered on my new plan and I feel GREAT about the new plan and made strides on it already today. Celebrate!

Speaking of Christmas Michael Jacobs - Today is that infamous shopping day known as Prime Day. It used to be called Christmas in July!

There is a lull in shopping so this was invented to boost the month until "back to School" shopping hits right around the corner!

Hi Michael Jacobs - Every day can be as special or uneventful or eventful as we want, whether it's a holiday, day of celebration, milestone, or just an ordinary day. I like your post. and thoughts on "eliminating chaos!"

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - I imagine that the Amazon algorithms said this could be the ideal timing for a "prime" event.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - some days are indeed more special than others because our attitude about them or about anything is "just right".

I don't pay too much attention to "special" days as such and I am definitely not a fan of participation trophies!

Generally speaking, we can always find cause for celebration. Today, I'm searching a bit harder. ( The kitchen remodel has evolved into a complex puzzle and it is still not resolved - problem with the cooktop cabinet and the quartz slab on the island was cut unevenly. Oh well, this too shall pass. )
