I assist taxpayers in the Greater Lansing area and the rest of Michigan who have tax issues, and I have recently seen an increase in the number of people who have multiple years of back tax returns that were never filed. The IRS is going after non-filers with a new vengeange, and they now have the technology to identify 7 million taxpayers who have failed to file their returns. The IRS will be targeting those non-filers this year in a new initiative to generate additional tax revenue. In addition, you should know that the willful failure to file a federal ax return is a federal tax crime under the Internal Revenue Code Section 7203.
So you may be wondering what can non-filers do now, and how can Spartan Tax Relief help them get prior year tax returns prepared and filed, and also help resolve any tax issues now coming to light with the IRS and/or state treasury department? Well, it depends on why they failed to file the tax return in the first place.
If the failure ot file the tax returns was because of a lack of money (you saw the balance due on the returns and decided to wait to file them later when you could pay it) then I can prepare and file these tax returns and begin working on a tax resolution to help restore the unpaid taxes, including Installment Agreements, Offer-in-Compromise ("OIC's"), or have their account placed in uncollectible status.
But if the taxpayer's failure to file was intentional and for other reasons, such as you were paying cash under the table to undocumented workers, then we could resolve that matter and steer clear of any criminal tax issue by using the IRS's Voluntary Disclosure Program. Doing this the taxpayer can come in and disclose their issues without fear of being sent over to the criminal tax division.
If you or someone you know has been hesitant to file old tax returns, or has some other federal and/or state tax problem, please feel free to contact me at 517-580-7141 or email me at Rich@SpartanTaxRelief.com and we can move forward to resolve these issues before they get to critical levels!
