On July 17, 1955 the famous theme park named for founder Walt Disney in Anaheim, California, is opened by him. Some of Walt's famous welcoming words from the opening day statement still echo throughout the park. Some can still be seen written at the entrance, while others are "heard" in the Morse Code broadcasting from the New Orlands Train Station.
Walt Disney's revolutionary idea of a family-friendly amusement park was scoffed at by most folks as an ambitious folly. Yet Walt's dream of a safe and pleasant place for families to enjoy themselves together has since become "The Happiest Place on Earth" to millions. There are several Disneylands in the world now-in Orlando, Florida, Paris, France and Toyko, Japan.
On that first day, many things went wrong.
However, Walt Disney took the "feedback" in stride and insisted the opening day of Disneyland was a success.
