Good People, Nextdoor, and Pets
You can take only so much of the news without wondering what the world is coming to and feeling like you want to crawl under your blanket and never come out.
And then you are reminded that there are good people in the world and your spirits are lifted.
Yesterday afternoon a sweet dog wandered into our garage door which was partially open and then into our backyard. He was so friendly and thirsty! It was after 4 and still 98 degrees out. Larry got him water and I went out in the street to see if someone was looking for him.
We decided to leave our gate opened just in case he was just out for an afternoon stroll. He was out for a stroll but wasn't leaving!
I decided to get social media involved and put his photo on Nextdoor. Within a few minutes, a very kind lady and definite dog lover contacted me to say she would take him to her vet to see if he was chipped.
She was at our house in 10 minutes and I could tell that she was like all of the other pet lovers here.
And 10 minutes after that, the neighbor of the owner messaged me with the owner’s name.
Long story short Gotham (the dog) is back home. The power of social media...this is how it's supposed to work!
Now... pets...or to pet owners. Please do not get a pet if you plan on leaving him outside night and day and not play or interact with them. It’s been brutally hot here day and night.
If you still want to leave your pet outside, I’ll go along with that if you first spend a week outside all day and all night..no tent or camper or Igloo cooler and no companionship.
(I’ve stepped off my soapbox now.)
