Finding a good side income is easier than ever these days. A far cry from when I searched in vain for some way to help make ends meet when my kids were little!
I remember agonizing about ways I could bring in a little extra money for groceries since we'd made the choice to have me stay home with our kids. That's what we felt was right for our family.
It was definitely never easy to live on one income ... and even harder these days! Thankfully, the Internet, and people's need for instant gratification (hello overnight Amazon delivery!), now presents some great ways to make money as a stay at home mom.
I would have given anything for some of these side income opportunities that are around today.
In fact, now that I'm an empty-nester, I absolutely love all of the online business choices there are. I've spent the past four years building various skill sets, and trying to find my true passion. So many good ideas, and so little time. [wink]
I did a bit of freelance writing and really enjoyed it. But something about writing for other people wasn't totally fulfilling. I then jumped into blogging, which I absolutely loved. Even with all of the blood, sweat, and tears that went into it for the first year or so.
Many days, the tedious learning curve of trying to monetize a blog made me want to drink! WordPress is not easy to master. Neither are the other million things that go along with getting "discovered" online ... such as good SEO. ;)
Recently, I learned something new about blogging for income. You can actually skip all of those steps and purchase a blog or website that's already making a little money! Who knew?
My friend who runs a very successful blog over at Unconventional Prosperity has written a review about his experience buying a website someone else had started.
Buying a website on Flippa was quite a learning experience for him, and it's a great article about the pros and cons, as well as what to watch out for.
There are a couple of big website resale businesses -- with some being more reputable than others. It's great to have an honest review of one of the top two companies.
As for me -- after a few amazing stepping stones online, I've landed on my website design business. It's the perfect fit, and I'm enjoying helping people set up blogs and websites they can be proud of.
Starting from scratch isn't for everyone, though. If you're considering a monetized website as a side business for some passive income, and you'd like to take the faster track ... see if buying a website on Flippa makes sense for you.
