If only real estate schools would tell people BEFORE enrollment: Real estate is NOT an instant gratification career. It takes time and patience to build a business. It also requires a bit of expenditure on marketing.

No one should start who needs a paycheck within 30 days.

Most real estate agents set goals. They usually cover a variety of topics beyond income. If I were to take a jab at guessing the percentage of real estate agents who actually achieve their goals, I think that figure might be disappointing.

Goals require a plan of attack, and many know how they will proceed. However, herein lies the problem. It’s ready, set and… That’s the issue.

The “Go” is missing.  Executing the methods consistently that will lead to success and reaching short term goals never gets off the ground properly. The agent might have energy and enthusiasm that lasts almost 30 days but without immediate gratification.  That’s the issue that results in the demise of the journey to reach those goals.

The money is invested for the first 30 days. The time is devoted for that period, as well. The first exhausting and frustrating sigh is next, along with the statement of “I just wasted a bundle of money.” Hence, the death of setting goals.

Consistent is not defined as 30 consecutive days. In a tough market, it could easily be one full year. Branding is king and it requires consistent marketing and visibility, trumped with a slogan that’s memorable and a logo that makes sense.

A major goal for real estate agents is to become “known” and “recognized” as a local real estate agent with a niche that follows that reputation.  This does not happen in 30 days.

Goals become reasonable to accomplish when one is branded in the marketplace. Goals change when the market changes, but all other factors remain the same in the real estate profession.

Be prepared for a lengthy period of time in a sellers’ market to accomplish executing “consistently.”

Just a thought for the moment…. Back to the sun!!
