Why do people slam doors?

Door Slamming

I searched the web this morning trying to find out why people slam doors. I did find some articles that stated some of the reasons for slamming doors, anger, frustration, etc.

But it did not explain "why" some people slam doors everyday, all day long, all week long and so on. There are several reasons why I think some people slam doors all the time ...

1.  Their parents yelled at them when they were young because they may have not closed the door completely.

2.  They want whomever is in the home to know that there, entering or leaving.

3.  They are venting their everyday frustration on the door by slamming it.

4.  They might not know their bad habit.

Can anyone add to this post and please explain why people always slam doors?

I myself think slamming doors is very irritating and hate when people do it.

And not only is slamming doors irritating, in time it will ruin the doors, hinges and door opening ...

Here is a article I found on the web with 5 ways to help prevent Door Slamming.

A question for the ages, Bob. I'm not a door slammer so I haven't given this one much thought... but now I will go an ponder on the subject as our friend Michael Jacobs would say.

The only time I ever slammed a door, I was upset. I don't do it very often which probably is another reason it gets the attention of who is there.

HI VB- I used to slam doors when I was younger as a way of venting at an inanimate object. I haven't done that in many many years. I do wonder why people don't shut doors or drawers, though.

Good evening Robert Vegas Bob Swetz - if it is

done intentionally it is very rude.  If I accidentally do it I apologize.

I don't usually slam doors.  However, recently, I have been slamming my door between the kitchen and the garage.  It's because the handyman who installed weather stripping didn't do it quite right, and it requires that I slam the door in order for it to shut.  I need to get him back here pronto.

I don't hear a lot of slamming doors. Maybe they don't know their own strength? Maybe they are deaf? Maybe they want to make a statement of some sort?

As a child one of my great aunts always said "Dont' slam the dooor (screen)!" The door closed very easily and quickly cusing it to slam.  I learned to hand onto door knobs. Sometimes it could the person's own reactivee behavior and sometimes it could justr be the door.

Thankfully we are not a door slamming home (well, not with regularity). Some people do this to vent, and I get it. For me, I always fear doing something stupid that causes more trouble (i.e. slam a car door and shatter the window) so if I am tempted to react, I just take a deep breath.... and maybe another...

Bob,

What an interesting post.  It is something I have never thought of.  As a teenager, I would slam doors to express displeasure...LOL A

Hi Bob:

Well I certainly have no explanation other than the ones you suggested. It's not something I have thought much about. I suspect some of it is due to anger or displeasure, and perhaps some of it is purely accidental.

We don't generally slam doors around here, but do have one that slams now and then when an exterior door or a window is left open. It's that darned wind!
