Summer Fun Begins with Being Prepared

The Cities within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex are all pretty hot over the summer months. I prepare for the heat in March or April by doing three things:

1) Take my car in for service maintenance

2) Schedule home AC service

3) Prepare a Summer Emergency bag

Pathwater is a 100% refillable and recyclable aluminum bottle with purified water inside. It keeps my water cold. I believe in refilling not landfill. Everything I need I carry with me in my Dallas Bag.

Something fun for kids to do and for people to watch to keep cool is Ice Skating!  At the Dallas Galleria Ice Skating Center inside the Mall, you never know who you may see or what kind of entertainment you'll get. Today's skaters were preparing for World Competition. There are restaurants on three tiers in the Mall to watch skaters practice.

It may be hot outdoors but people in Dallas are always prepared to cool off and have fun! In Dallas-Fort Worth you can have your summer and your winter most anytime of the year! Kids just want to have fun and they start out young! To live in the Dallas Metroplex you can choose to be young or choose to be old. You may not be able to change the weather outside but what you do inside is your business and all you have to do is choose your attitude, the time, and the place. Physical activities and observations nurture us with imagination, the vividness of color regardless of tiers we climb, and where there are children, there is hope.

Hot fun in the summertime. It is smart to be prepared and make the most out of what life (and the weather) dishes us. I like your aluminum water bottle option. It makes sense and I appreciate your desire to avoid adding to the plastic problem facing our planet. Happy Saturday. D

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - I have always been opposed to plastic. I guess it started in High School when I was assigned my first job through a school program. Like other students, I got out before the school bell to work at a job that was on the business school's approval list. It was a Plastic Products Company in Downtown Chicago. The more training they gave me and the more I learned about how Plastics was going to change my future, I must have felt very sad, and it must have shown. Before my probationary period was up, I got called into "Personnel." They fired me because they said my heart wasn't in it and I should think about finding another company.

When it comes to plastics, my daughter and son are just like me!

Barbara Todaro - I didn't get to learn how to ice-skate as a young child in Chicago. But I did become a mother and after my kids were born, we moved to Northern, IL where I learned to Ice Skate at the pond across the fields from where we lived. We hiked through the woods, across the stream, into the thick brush to get to the secluded pond by the old red barn. By the time my kids were very proficient at ice skating, I had the courage to try and they taught me. We had so much fun laughing and skating, skating and laughing. It was even funnier watching my two munchkins trying to pick me up when I would fall but we continued laughing and I learned!

Wayne and Jean Marie Zuhl - Oh yes! I am staying cool. I'm pretending that my electric bill won't be a shock. But at least I have a good AC that I purchased a little over a year ago.

Ice Skating in July is a REALLY COOL IDEA!

Happy Sunday to you!

Hi Patricia... where ever you live, you can choose to be old or choose to be young. I choose to be young! Age is only a number.

Thanks for reminding me I need to take my car in for its 15,000 mile service!

Nina Hollander - The first time someone told me "Age is only a number," was when I was in a Super Market in IL. I was married but very young. An old man would wander around in that store all the time! One day, I asked the store owner, who is that man? He told me he didn't have a home, but he liked to be with people and walk around in the store. So the owner let him, and he always gave the man food. The guy was never a bother to customers and rarely if ever talked. But one day, as I was about to checkout, he tapped me on my shoulder and said, "What is age?" I must have looked dumbfounded and before I could open my mouth, he replied, "Age is just a number."

Do you know how many times I thought about that man? That day he spoke to me was the last time I ever saw him and I pondered that question my whole life and admittedly, he was right.

George Souto - An ounce of prevention does put my mind more at ease and in the state of calm. I do believe 80% of all repairs and service calls could have been avoided with regular maintenance plans before the harsh weather begins.

Your compliment sure made a difference in my day. Thank you, George.
