Some Bad Habits Can Be Corrected Others Not So Easily | Have Any??

We all have a few “bad business habits,” when it comes to how we handle our business. My focus is on marketing, and I have no loss in the bad habit category with one very important task!!

I market for two members of The Todaro Team, and we communicate by email and text.  It’s usually text they prefer. Of course, I prefer email. Therein lies the problem!!!

The reason for my choice is, with email, I can download and create a folder on my download page for photos and relevant information for each property. With text messages, it just does not work well for me.  My OCD won’t allow messages of any kind to remain visible. I begin and end each day with a clean window. I’m the clean slate type of worker.

It’s like cleaning a closet at home or leaving the desk in your office perfectly clean of everything!! At the beginning of every day, I clean that closet and delete everything I’ve read, not thinking about the photos that I did not download!!! So, it’s double the work for whomever sends me photos for “coming soon” posts.

The professional photos are always sent by email via Drop Box, and then I download each photo and place it in a folder with the address. They both know I like everything emailed, so if I delete in error, I can find it in my trash and download.

I continue to preach to them to not even attempt to change that particular bad habit. It cannot be done. I’ve tried, and after two days, DELETED!! It bothered the hell out of me to hang onto those text messages for two days.

Just saying, in case you have someone who also has that bad habit….

Sheila Anderson actually, I DO text but I delete everything I text and all responses after I've read them....  anything I NEED to keep MUST be EMAILED so I can download it and save it in a folder of it's own....I have a folder for each listing.... if I am missing a photo, I go to the folder... same with data....

Too much miscommunication when texting.  I know the younger generation thinks texting is wonderful, but I think it sucks!

More and more people, clients and agents both, communicate via text; our generation tends to prefer email.

I don't keep "stuff," Barbara... but I do hold on to certain text and email correspondence indefinitely. But they get saved in folders I don't need to look at.

For important stuff, I definitely prefer email to text message.  It is such a pain to forward text messages to my email, haha.

Hi Barbara Todaro - I am not sure I would call that a bad habit.  It is a different habit that works for you. My husband does my social media and marketing, He also collaborates with me on the photography. I use my phone a lot, so he texts me when he sent an email with images.

We also have Macs and the messaging app goes directly to a text message on my phone.  He can drag and drop links from the computer or email right into a message. It works great.

In Arizona, we can't use a text message for accountability. It won't hold up in a dispute. But, I don't delete my messages and will do a screenshot and put them in a folder when I think there is an issue. Again, all you have to do is drag and drop.

I have text messages with videos from my daughter-in-law of Tristan when he was a baby. It doesn't take that much space on my phone.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® much of that is beyond my paygrade...."old school".... "drag and drop" sounds like a High Intensity Interval Training session that I wasn't ready for.......

important messages should be saved in a file and that's an email message... Brian England or it's beyond my paygrade!!!

Nina Hollander and those messaages are emailed, at least to me.... I download and put in a folder.... and/or I print it out and have a papertrail for a folder to file away....

Hi BarbaraT- I'm with Sheri Sperry - MCNE® you don't have a bad habit, you have a different habit. Texting does have its place but so does email. I will say that saving some of my texts saved me a lot of time last year when somehow many of my contacts were deleted from my phone. Their numbers were still in my texts though.

I have a bad habit I am trying to break.  I have  I have never considered myself to be overly competitive.  But, if I'm at the pool, I often find myself trying to make certain I swim as many laps as some of the younger folks do.  At this point in life, I'm probably doing more damange than good.  But, like this morning, that didn't stop me, and this afternoon I'm paying the price for it!

Morning Barbara.

I have the same issue. Just not much for texting, if I get one they usually stay in my file for no more than two-three days before they are deleted

Barbara, after years of using iMessage on my Mac computer, I finally got Ray to use the same thing on his PC. He downloaded a Verizon app and now he can text from his computer.

The saving grace with being able to do that is that you can hold your mouse over a photo that someone sent you via text and drag it right over into your DropBox file.

I wish I were in MA - I would so come over and set that up for you!
