When It All Goes Sour

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with St.Cloud Homes

In this business we meet a lot of people. Some we hope to never see again, and others touch us in profound ways. They in some way, make us better people just for having met them. A family I became very fond of is returning to the UK today. It made me sad. They came here with hopes of living the American dream. Their investment soured, they lost everything and have to return to begin all over again. As a Problem Solver there was nothing I could do to help. As an American, I felt awful the dream became a nightmare for this family. As a Human..I cried with them and for them. Good people dupped into making bad decisions.  Florida is transient. People come and go everyday. Today, a family I came to know and deeply like are leaving...tomorrow perhaps someone will touch your life in a profound and meaningful way or as a Realtor YOU may touch someone in a profound and meaningful way.

Hi Allison,

I'm sure your friends/clients will remember your special friendship.  It is interesting how we bond with certain clients and others......well, you know how that goes.  Fortunately, most of my client relationships are pleasant.

Thanks Diane

We introduced them to Thanksigiving, Nascar, and the SUperbowl..and they helped us to enjoy American traditions all the more for it. Every once in while you will meet a family genuinely special.  I guess I better update my passport and set a new goal thi syear..to go visit them.

It's so sad that the "American Dream" didn't become a reality for them.  I do wish them the best as they return to the UK to begin again.

I do too- I rarely make it a policy to get so attached. Florida is by nature a transient area. Over 22 million visitors come to our area a year. Had they not lost their entire life savings perhaps I would not feel so badly. Good people in a bad situation and naive enough to not know when to pull to pull the financial  plug-the irony was it was their fellow countrymen who did them dirty. I hope they will will rebuild and try again. I would still like to thin this is a land of opportunity.

Wow.  What a great post.  We are in a people business... and with people come emotions.  I work in the pre-foreclosure market and know all too well how often the situation goes sour. I have met some wonderful people in my business transactions and can't help but empathize with what they are going through.

I see absolutely no problem getting attached to a client or their situation.  I think it what makes us good people and GOOD AT WHAT WE DO.  I am a human first... and an agent second.
