Dora Colvin was raised in North Dakota on a farm. Sorry I don’t have any other data except to note she started working as a teacher. She retired in 2010 and now lives in Udall, Kansas. Nothing to get excited about, right? Well hang on because the following is the rest of the story, so let’s get to it. If you haven’t figured it out this one is going to be short.
During the summer while school was in recess she traveled with her husband Butch, a truck driver. In 1965, she was the first woman to hold a CDL license in Kansas. In 1972, she was the first woman to drive for Stanley Dilley a produce company. In 1992, she was the first woman to drive for the chemical company Wynne Tank Lines. In 2004, she and her husband were named Company Team of the Year for CFL. She has driven over 2 million miles without an accident. She was a trail blazer for women to the trucking industry.
