that has to work somewhere or go to another city, then do your best to see it.

Summer wouldn't be fun in summer if it wasn't for Fort Worth, TX! Did you ever know a kid who didn't want to be a Cowboy? Or a Cowgirl? Riding horses and being around horses has a way of teaching one many life lessons. If you never dreamed about Cowboys or Cowgirls, horses, and having fun, well then.... fiddle-dee-dee! Now's your chance to be one!

The National Day of the American Cowboy is on July 27, 2019. Follow the link for more information and location. The event celebrates the history and the heritage of the American Cowboy. The event will take place in Fort Worth, TX at the Fort Worth Stockyards. Activities for the whole family include the following:

  • Rodeo
  • Gun Fight
  • A Cow Milking Contest
  • Live Music including fiddling!
  • A Mustache Contest
  • Chuck Wagon Poetry
  • Most Worn Boot Contest
  • A Quick Draw Contest
  • A Parade

The parade kicks off the event with a Cattle Drive starting at 11:30 a.m. Come hungry and join the fun at Riscky's rib eating contest beginning at 11:00 a.m. Customers can register in advance on FaceBook for $5.00 or $10.00 at the door. For lively and interesting entertainment, stop off at Billy Bob's, where some of the greatest country singers that ever lived performed between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. For free admission wear a Cowboy Hat

These photos were taken on Christmas Morning 2018 while walking through the Stock Yards with my daughter and son-in-law. The last two photos are my family. The cattle drive will run down this street under the Fort Worth Stock Yards Sign.

When I was a kid, it wasn't unusual for a photographer to roam neighborhoods with a pony.  He'd put a cowboy hat on a boy or girl and snap their picture.  So many vintage images in family albums have those photos.  I always felt left out that I didn't have that experience!

The Fort Worth observance of the National Day of the American Cowboy sounds divine!

Howdy Michael Jacobs - Isn't it fun to see what's going on around the country! It's time to giddy up and wear your cowboy hat and boots if you're coming to Texas! And to echo our friend Brian England --- haha!

Myrl Jeffcoat - You too??? My two older sisters have a photo of themselves on the guy who drove the pony through our neighborhood. It was taken across the street from where I lived. They are both wearing a cowgirl hat sitting on the pony. I also felt left out because I'm only 13 months younger than sister #2!

Maybe we should be thankful we are not categorized with the Vintage People! Me & You - forever young!!!

Patricia, National Day of the Cowboy in Fort Worth sounds like great fun, a blast from the past. I'm grinning, thinking of  your expression, fiddle-dee-dee -- I haven't heard that one for a dog's age!

I didn't know it was national cowboy day, but I appreciate the tag.  Was I tagged because I always say haha or because I live in cowboy country?

Every so often it's fun to pull out old words and expressions, right? I used the term "jalopy" in a post once that garnered a lot of comments!

Lottie Kendall - Hey! That would be an interesting challenge here on AR! It's fun to learn new phrases or remember words that aren't used anymore to see how they fit into a sentence of the story.

Jalopy is a great one too! I think inserting words like this would definitely get a lot of attention and it would be fun to read!

Can't say I ever wanted to be a cowgirl as a kid, Patricia. I wanted to be a ballerina! But I will tell you that I totally craved those cowgirl outfits they wore on the Mickey Mouse Club show!

Nina Hollander - I wanted my photo taken on a horse wearing a cowgirl outfit. But that's about it. My dream was to be a ballerina too!

The Mickey Mouse Club and Shirley Temple Movies were shows I loved to watch as a kid. I never did get a Mickey Mouse hat or ballerina slippers. :(

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP hi Patricia... I'd still like to be a ballerina... but a bit long in the tooth for it!

My favorites, too... the Mickey Mouse Club (who didn't love Annette?) and Shirley Temple movies. I never had one of those hats or ballerina shoe's either. The only ballerina shoes I own now are those that were worn by principal dancers of the NYC Ballet Company signed by the dancers who wore them.
