In Flower Mound, TX, population 69,966 as of 2019,  the cost of living in Flower Mound is 33% higher than the Texas average, the cost of living is 20% higher than the national average, the cost of housing is 62% higher than the national average, the general sales tax is 23% higher than the national average, and the Texas state income tax is 100% lower than the national average per Areavibes. Yet, people continue to choose Flower Mound as their city of choice to live for reasons, such as schools, taxes, and close proximity to DFW Airport and Dallas Love Field.

Affordable homes under $300,000.00 continue to lesson due to low inventory and buyers are losing opportunities if they are not buying if conditions don't meet expectations as seen on (unrealistic) TV Reality or other home programs produced to influence and persuade consumers based on actors and scripts leading people to believe buying a home is easy and do-it-yourself projects are fun. Hired contractors, in reality, are more expensive. Custom homes are very expensive and the renovation is not cheap. If everyone had the same income, taste, style, and needs, homes would perhaps be perfect, but the reality is no home is perfect. Maintenance is a reality. Homeowners can only do what they can do and expectations by buyers are not always a reality. The true reality is, nobody, not even homes that are pre-existing or new are perfect. But for those who rented and now own, many appreciate having their own home to build equity, even if it isn't perfect rather than rent.

People can learn to live within their means if they understand finances, economics, supply and demand and weigh what is most valuable to them, such as schools, location, and other factors unique and important to each and every individual. The greatest benefit to those who own and who are willing to make sacrifices know they aren't contributing to a Landlord or an Investor's retirement goal for wealth opportunities.

Patricia, a quote came to mind when reading this post..."Home is where the heart is". No matter what it looks like to others, it is only important to the one living in the house.

Oh, I love your Flower Mound stats, Patricia and take on finance and affrordability in housing. You already know we're both on the same page!

And, I'm so with you - there IS no perfect home. That is one sentence that I always cringe when I hear a buyer say, "I won't stop until I find the perfect home!"  YIKES!

Hope you're having a great weekend.

Hello Patricia - people choose their "right" place to live based on a multitude of reasons.  We may not always know unless we ask and carefully listen.  Knowing and understanding statistics help but sometimes it's something we haven't even thought about it but it is expressed naturally because we totally know the subject and perhaps the conversation has flowed because of it or in spite of it --- we just never know.  Be prepared.  Listen.  Respond appropriately.

Patricia, Flower Mound, Texas must be an exceptional place to live if people are willing to pay the higher costs.
