Closing Costs

Closing costs are the various fees a buyer and seller have to pay to complete a real estate transaction. Ways to Lower Closing Costs

1. Get a Rebate from the Broker’s Commission

There are few brokerages that offer a commission if you do some of the leg work when buying a property. These include visiting a home on your own without a realtor to walk you through the house. It is best to ask what discounts they can offer so you can take advantage of the various deals that they have.

2. Research Closing Costs in Your Area

Closing costs may vary between cities as tax laws can differ between areas. You'll want to make sure you're only paying for fees that are required in the region and can avoid any unnecessary expenses.

3. Consider Buying a Resale Home Instead of a Brand New House

You can save the right amount of money if you repurchase a property that the original buyer can no longer afford. If a family was living in the home before chances are there are fewer repairs needed as the previous residents would most likely have any issues fixed.

4. Request Quotes from Different Lenders

The more lenders you get a quote from the better the offer you'll end up with at the end. Let them know that you're shopping between different companies and ask for the best offer they can provide. They'll usually offer a better deal rather than lose your business. Make sure you get a breakdown of their fees to make the best decision possible once you've finished canvassing.

5. Schedule Your Closing Date Towards the End of the Month

If you schedule your close date at the end of the month, you can save the right amount on your daily insurance charges. The per diem interest typically resets at the end of each month. You won't have to pay the extra days you usually would pay if you ended the transaction mid-month.
