Just make stuff up! Friday Fun!

So you're rolling around and life is going smooth.....and then you hear an absolutely ridiculous statement that someone thinks is true but you know it's not. What do you do? My answer would be - it depends on the situation. Which makes sense.  If the made up stuff is said in a line at a grocery store I'd probably have a silent chuckle and smile and not say anything.  There's so much made up stuff these days...... it's just not worth it to chime in and get involved in the drama. That's just me. You do whatever you want! Some folks like to stir the pot and actually that is interesting to watch as you know they're doing it on purpose! BUT if it's a continuing bashing then....no thanks....count me out.

But what if it's a client making stuff up that so isn't the way things work in the real estate world?  What would you do?  Again it depends on the situation.  If it's my client, I'd calmly ask them to restate what they just said and see if it comes out the same as before. Often times a client means one thing but says something else. Once I've got a  better understanding of where their thought process is going.....I can, again calmly, share with them how it really works and the reasoning behind it. And the conversation can go back and forth as long as it needs to in order to help them see how things really work. The key is to stay calm and educate the client to help them roll along smoothly in the process of buying or selling a home!

That's it - short and to the point stuff for Friday. Enjoy your weekend!

"Some folks like to stir the pot and actaully that is interesting to watch as you know they're doing it on purpose!"

I deal with someone almost daily that does this, and it can be exhausting to deal with.  Fortunately, it is a person at the health club I go to, and not family or business associates.

Hi Anna- I have a friend who at times is like that. They will argue (and loudly too) about a point and sometimes all anyone else wants to do is walk away.

Myrl Jeffcoat totally agree if it is a 'constant' then I find a way to skirt around the annoying person and just let it go and do my thing. It's amazing that their employers don't realize how annoying they can be to customers.

Hey Kathy Streib oh yes we all have a few like that kind. I do walk away, especially if it's a pattern that never stops. Who needs that craziness.,,,

Hello Anna - these are certainly pot-stirring times so you can find me in "it depends on the situation" camp as well.

Drama on the big screen, maybe popcorn to watch the movie - good!

Drama in business, home, or personal - disastrous, distracting, and dangerous too!

Anna,

Like Michael Jacobs stated, we are in the "it depends camp".  And that is one of the many reasons we are cable free, commercial free...Media noise free...our news comes for Reuters which is the source of most media...they take it and give all kinds of spin on it...and then people repeat the spin.  A

Yes! We are working with a client right now who says a lot of things that just aren't true regarding real estate. We gently remind her that it's not the  way it works, and try not to make her feel misinformed, as we correct her. I will tell ya, she is testing my good nature of late. Lol.

Hi Anna... your title certainly piqued my interest. So much of our work includes "gently" reminding clients that their information is wrong or that they are depending on the wrong people for it. It's an art.

Such sage advice especially when working with clients. Way toooooo many today just launch into usually an over zealous rebuttal. cheers cvcc

Hi Anna - I'm agree with the "it depends" theory too.  If it's a client that repeats something they heard something 3rd (or 4th) hand then that's something that most times needs correction.
