Black-eyed Susan, Kentlands Photowalk, Gaithersburg, Maryland

I took this photograph in our Kentlands home garden. Black-eyed Susan is one of my favorite plants and these flowers add a lot of color to many gardens in our community. They require little care and bloom every year.

Maryland State Flower. The Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta) has been the official Maryland flower since 1918 when it was designated the "Floral Emblem" of Maryland by the General Assembly (Chapter 458, Acts of 1918; Code State Government Article, sec. 13-305).

I had them in my front bed for years.... but made the mistake of pulling one out for a neighbor and it must have been the mother plant, and they never came back.

At a software company I worked at, they had a field with Black Eyed Susans.  I loved them then, and I love them still.

Roy Kelley - Aren't they lovely! They really brighten up a garden. They are blooming in my garden in Flower Mound now too! They have such happy faces.

Hi  Roy Kelley !  I did not know that the Black-Eyed Susan was the state flower of Maryland -- and one of your favorite plants.  They do command a presense.  Nice!!
