Summer Fun Activities for the Kids (and Adults)
Are the kids driving you crazy? DO you need some ideas of things to do? Well, check out my list of summer fun!
It wouldn’t be summer without the national pastime. Go to a baseball game either major or minor league and cheer for your team. Or at the local ball field and start your own game. You don’t need a lot of equipment and you can make up your own rules.
The Beach is always fun. IS there a nearby Lake? Ocean? Lagoon? Spend the day in the sun and have fun in the sand. Or go in the evening for a cookout in the firepit with BBQ foods and S'mores.
Check out Water craft rentals - Kayak, pedal boat, Duffy boat around the bay, paddle board or wind surfing.
Watch the sunset from a great location and take some photos
Have a Photo scavenger hunt around the house or around the neighborhood.
Ride bikes on local trails and through parks but stay on bike paths!
Plan a playdate. Arrange with friends to visit each other at their homes and rotate the location every week.
Meet up at the playground. Bring a picnic or just some snacks.
Take a hike - literally! Find a nearby location that has marked trails. Just be aware of the local critters and be prepared
Take the kids to the ice cream parlor OR better yet, bring the ice cream home and let them make their own sundaes.
Meet up with friends at the local swimming pool or lake. Bring items they can dive for. Make sure there are life guards present the whole time and don't get distracted on your phone when the kids are in the water.
How about a Movie night. Gather weekly for a Disney favorite. Or go big and Project a movie on a large wall of the house or garage and invite the neighbors.
Is there a Drive-In theater in the area. Fill up two or three cars and have fun.
How about Horseback riding. Is there a stable nearby?
Backyard Camping - perfect for the little ones who are not quite ready for a real camping trip to the wilderness.
Is there a County / State Fair in town? Don't just go for the overpriced carnival rides! Check out the blue-ribbon animals and visit the exhibition halls
Sports camps like tennis, martial arts and baseball to name a few might last a week or longer.
Have fun with shaving cream. Look up various activities you can do with a handful of foam.
Water balloons are always fun on hot days. Get the kids (and adults) in bathing suits, pre-make a bucket full of water balloons and let the fun fly
Squirt guns or water blasters are another way to get wet and cool off
Turn on the sprinklers and let them run! You get to water the lawn and keep the kids busy
Is there a water park nearby? plan a visit with the neighborhood kids
Backyard sports like volleyball, badminton and frisbee are always favorites. Miniature golf is another fun time for a group of kids.
Go to the Farmer's market and show the kids interesting new foods
Plant a garden. Could be for vegetables or flowers. Let the kids tend them throughout the summer
Have some craft ideas ready in case you get rained out. Have supplies like paper, scissors, glue, stickers and glitter ready to go. Bring out the puzzles and board games too.
Make a video. Have the children make up a story or re-enact their favorite animated movie. Let them dress up in costumes and write the script. Film it with your smartphone and share it with their friends.
Have I started you thinking? You can always get great ideas from the internet. Just look up SUMMER ACTIVITIES.
You'll keep them busy all summer.
