Good morning, Dana Hollish Hill good observation by your friend.... and isn't it sad that no everyone leaves a home with a welcoming flavor to the next occupant.... a bottle of wine or gift card for food during a move in.... there are so many little things that make a big difference to folks...

Absolutely! I had another walk-through the next day and the sellers left light bulbs, refrigerator filters and HVAC filters for my buyers and they were so happy and asked me if all sellers are so kind to their buyers. I wished I could honestly have answered with a yes.

That's perfect!! I had made that observation at a recent walk through and it became a popular instagram post.  It's so easy to simply be courteous.

Hi Dana Hollish Hill that is a great idea for sellers!  My house cleaners always do something creative with the TP and it's fun to see what's next.

Add lightbulbs and trash cans as well as some well-placed plants. Why take-em?

I love this!  Leaving convenience items is a no-brainer.  We're at our vacation home now and can tell "someone" has been here... they left single-ply TP which we never use... but at least they were nice enough to bring their own and leave it lol.

Sometimes Buyers turn Sellers into mean people. This can happen when the Seller’s moving plans change. They ask Buyers for a bit more time. The Buyers say no way! No toilet tissue gets left BEHIND 😂😅🤣.

Wouldn't it be a better world if everyone left the toilet paper?  There will always be givers and takers.  Givers make the world a better place.

And then there are those who not only take the toilet paper - they also take the light bulbs.

Yep. My parents once bought a house and the sellers took the light fixtures so there were wires hanging down from the ceiling in each room.

The T/P and a bottle in the refrigerator.  It takes so little to leave a smile on someones face... the world would be better place if everyone took this path.

Thanks for post.. and when you limit to toilet paper.. and if they leave or take.. I guess there are only two options and two kinds of people.  Honestly in our past moves I am not sure which we fell into.  I am positive we did leave at least a full roll hanging on the wall but not sure about any of the others.

Hi dana:

Well, that's an interesting question, and no doubt I will always be mindful of this with sellers, and buyers, in the future. Better to leave the TP behind instead of some of the other stuff I have seen! LOL.

How sweet and what a simple way to say " I care." Love the flower too...I usually fold the top layer into a little v-flap...not sure I'm this creative.

It's common courtesy to leave at least one roll behind.  I also read somewhere, that having toilet paper in a bathroom is a staging necessity when selling a vacant home.  Apparently, when we notice that toilet paper is missing from a bathroom it can cause a brief but very real moment of terror on a subconcious level

There is nothing worse than hosting an Open House with no toilet paper. I keep a few rolls hidden in the back of my car just in case.

Sheri - I know what you mean. I've done final walk-throughs in houses of all conditions. In my area, it says the home must be "broom swept with debris removed." Some clients take that as the minimum and others the maximum they will do veore leaving.

Hi Dana,  Thanks for sharing this story.  Common courtesy goes a long way.  I have thought about the toilet paper - but some of these other ideas are wonderful.  Extra light bulbs, labeled paint cans, garbage cans - Something in the refrigerator is a very nice touch.

It looks like these sellers had the house professionally cleaned for the new owner--something I insist on !  And for those sellers who say they will clean it themselves...well, no one wants to spend a few hours cleaning a home after hauling boxes all day!
