Motivational Monday...Staying Young

When I moved back to Houston, I finally had the pleasure of meeting my friend’s mother who had just turned 100 years young.

Cretora could run circles around most of us. After having lunch with her and my friend/her daughter, she told us her schedule for the remainder of the day.

Whew! She had a board meeting for the facility she lives in, another meeting for the entertainment panel that she chairs, bingo, and her book club meeting...all before dinner!

Before her birthday she was in a fashion show that her home had!  Everyone at Chico’s knows her! She is always reading or painting when she is not out and about running errands with her daughter.

Her son-in-law is no slouch either. Ron is 75ish and drives about 2 hours each way twice a week to volunteer at the prison there as a chaplain.

One of our members here continues to work for her team handling all of the marketing for them. She continues to work out and mentors others so that they can enjoy the healthy lifestyle she now has. (You know who I’m talking about!!! BT)

I’ll be hitting a certain number this year that hardly seems possible for me because I feel at least 25-30 years younger. Most of us here by virtue of the fact that we’re here doing what we do are, in my mind, way ahead of the staying young game.

Find a reason to get up...get out and do...exercise your muscles and that includes the one in your and laugh every day...have people in your life.

Hi Kathy... I firmly believe, age is just a number and that you are as young as you believe you are... in my head I'm only 35.

Good morning Kathy. The move back to Chicago helped me stay young. My son thinks I am his older brother and I can’t really keep up but I keep trying. We are on the same timeline I think! Enjoy your day

You are only as old as you feel and staying active keeps things working, I am definitely on the BT plan for a long and active life!

Hi Kathy Streib,

Now that was very motivational.  Every older person I know stays active and your post demonstrates that.

Kathy, thank you for the reminder that we all need to “get out and do.” I’ve spent a lifetime feeling guilty when not working, but I need to change my attitude. Relaxation is a gif!

Love this one Kathy!  Some of our retired clients are busier now than then ever before! Just trying to book a lunch with them isn't easy when it's booked around all the stuff they are involved in.  And that is fantastic!!!  For once I seem like the slouch (ok not really as I'm still the energizer banana)!!!

Hi Michael Jacobs We are definitely not our parents when it comes to our ages. And the birthday countdown is something I'm hoping will just pass by quietly like a large ship on the ocean.

Barbara Todaro I love seeing people my age and older engaged in today's technology and outdoors exercising every day.

Hi Robin Wells you're so right, it's so important to keep moving and to not blame our age for not doing things.

Nina Hollander that's about what my head says as well!!!

Donald Urschalitz it's one of the reasons why I loved seeing people of all ages out at the beach jogging or walking and enjoying life.

Kathy Streib - Whatever your friend's mother has, I wish it could be bottled. I think her energy could change the world. You were lucky to meet her and I enjoyed reading about her.

You're having a birthday! Always remember to your family and friends you will always be young. Continue to be the wonderful you, you are!

It's wonderful to observe centenarians who are still active and experiencing relatively good health.  A couple years ago, I attended a function, where I witnessed a 100 year old lady, who was helping in the kitchen, and then actually danced after dinner.  She would have made most 70 year old envious!

Morning Kathy.

Our middle aged son stayed with me after the game Sunday to see what his old dad did.  Well, I can say he was one worn out puppy by the time he got home.  The old man still has it.
