You remember the movie "Field of Dreams" starring Kevin Costner. It is a classic. The line " If you build it, they will come" helps me to remember that I am in command of my own business model. This brings me to the definition of "Rainmaker" and how it applies to this blog.
Definition of "Rainmaker"
The dictionary definition of "rainmaker" is:
1)A person who attempts to cause rain to fall, either by rituals or by a scientific technique such as seeding clouds with crystals.
The informal definition of a rainmaker is:
2) A person who generates income for a business or organization by brokering deals or attracting clients or funds.
We couldn't have picked a better name to describe what the ActiveRain Community is all about. I look at both definitions and by combining them it becomes an even more accurate definition of what we are all about.
Seeding the Clouds
To me, ActiveRain is about connecting with people to promote sharing ideas, techniques, processes and the exuberance of our industry. I don't look at it as raining money as the picture and definition support.
Taking Care of the Customer
I believe that if you take care of the customer and put their needs above yours, then the business will continue to grow. If you build it they will come!
Looking Back To My First ActiveRain Milestone
In my journey to continue building my business, I have reached many milestones as we all have. This particular milestone is directly related to ActiveRain. It was back around November of 2014 when I reached 100,000 points.
Though this is a very modest achievement especially when compared to a great many Rainmakers out there many who are approaching 5 million points and of course, Roy Kelley who has achieved that goal. We all know that 1 million points and a cup of coffee, well, it gets you a cup of coffee! However, at the time, it was a major milestone for me and it is a way to constantly measure our achievements. The points have helped me set goals and develop blogging habits directly related to my Sedona real estate business.
True Salespeople Are Achievers
Those of us who are true salespeople and work on a commission basis are constantly analyzing our performance and what we can do better to achieve more. As I moved forward past that 100,000 point level, I set my goals on 500,000 points and then 1,000,000 points. I wanted to keep moving up the rankings for Sedona as well as becoming number one in Northern Arizona.
I can see my development over the years and I have ActiveRain to thank for my improvement.
I am a firm believer...
If your intentions are pure, your clients will see that and they will be your best advocates.
Before the throne of the Almighty, man will be judged not by his acts but by his intentions. For God alone reads our hearts.
