Not So Speechless Sunday: Kahili Ginger Season!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

This time of the year, Kahili Ginger is sold at the Farmer's Market by our favorite avocado grower.  Just 3 stalks in a large floor vase in our home perfumes the whole place with a light gardenia like scent. Their season is a couple of months long, and they are easy to grow.

Hedychium gardnerianum is a species of flowering plant in the ginger family Zingiberaceae, native to the Himalayas in India, Nepal, and Bhutan. It is an erect herbaceous perennial growing to 8 ft tall with long, bright green leaves clasping the tall stems. Wikipedia

How lovely, Alexandra... never saw anything like this. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to ginger as well as to the scent of gardenia... both give me terrible migraine-type headaches.

Nina Hollander sorry to hear about your allergies.  Fake perfumes give me a headache, so I do understand.  When we had our offices in a high rise, we would take the service elevator rather than ride up with women who had a spilled a bottle of perfume on themselves...toxic cloud!  LOL A

I didn't realize they grow on the mainland too!  Considered a weed here, but they sure do smell and look great.

Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 funny how we have different perspectives.  We have Queen Anne's Lace here, that many back East consider a weed.  I love having these plants for a couple of months, they are part of summer memories for me!  A
