Monday Motivational...Practice Patience

Did you ever run into one of those situations...a very simple, every day one...that seemed designed to test your patience?

If you let it, it can get your day started off on the wrong foot. You walk into just a thoughtyour appointment ready to snap at the slightest transgression.  Or at the very least, you could let it ruin what started out to be a promising day.

The other morning Larry and I pulled into a parking spot at Dunkin to purchase our coffee beans. I waited in the car and a young lady pulled up behind us in a big truck...not SUV but a big truck! As she walked by, she realized that she was blocking our car and apologized, saying she would only be a minute.

Larry came out and she was still inside.  We sat and waited and drank some coffee. The only a minute turned into several and, men, I don’t mean to throw you under the bus, and yes, we ladies can be impatient, but I was totally amazed that Larry didn’t blow a gasket.

He looked at the size of the truck and said It’s not easy to move a big truck around anywhere. We have our coffee...why sweat the small stuff.

And isn’t that the case?  No day is perfect. Things and people are going to happen to you that try our patience. Often it’s out of our hands. What we can do is learn to not sweat the small stuff. Take a deep breath and look at what’s going right in your life.

When you look at those extra minutes you may have been forced to wait, is it really worth getting all bent out of shape and ruining your day?

Patience is not simply the ability to wait-it’s how we behave while we’re waiting. Joyce Meyer

Good morning, Kathy - as Barbara Todaro commented 'patience takes practice' for some.  And that is definitely true for me.  Mindfulness matters.  It's definitely not easy but is important.  For several, if not more, reasons.

Your nephew Dini is the most impatient member of the family...when it's time for treats...there is no stopping his complaining /begging if you don't pay attention !

Good morning Kathy Streib - I need to learn more about that.  Being a high "D" in the DISC survey I tend to be impatient.

At least she acknowledged what she had done and apologized, I am guessing she was even more apologetic when she finally came out to move her truck, as she likely realized that it took longer than she thought it would.

Nice reminder, Kathy. I'm usually patient with others, but not very patient with myself -- gotta work on that!

That would be a no big deal. I think people do the best they can (in most cases). You know you are in Texas now with big trucks EVERYWHERE! lol

Patience is a learned trait. I did not always have it. Maybe it comes with age too. or perhaps both. Not sure i would be calm, especially if in a hurry like most days.

Happy Monday Kathy,  I guess I am in patience lots of time, do not like lines, do not like rude people that would blog my in for a minute.  Larry is a better man then I could be.

Happy Monday, and patience does require practice...loved Larry's take on it.  Our take is :  Imagine we are on the plane to Paris/or another far away location, we cannot make it get there any faster.  Sit back and read and enjoy the coffee!  A

Barbara Todaro I'm usually a patient person but don't suffer fools.

Wayne Martin most of us have to practice at being patient. I wonder how many people just are.

Nina Hollander that's so funny. I've found that mothers I've met tend to have developed patience.

Michael Jacobs I'm rarely impatient unless someone is being thoughtless and it impacts my time.

Sally K. & David L. Hanson he's a special situation. Dini is so cute he can have a treat whenever he wants.

Grant Schneider there's something to be said about counting to 10 !!!!!

Brian England you're absolutely right!!!! And at the end of the day, how much time did we really miss waiting?  Not much in the big scheme of things.

Scott Godzyk I'll bet being a parent has helped with your being patient.

Will Hamm he surprises me, however, he'd rather turn right than wait for a red light. He'll go out of his way to avoid it.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel what an excellent way to look at it.

Hi Kathy Streib - Point well taken!  It is just not worth it.  However, it reminds me of a similar story only it happened to someone else. I watched the person who was blocked in gingerly made his way out and then completely blocked the other car.  I didn't stick around to see the outcome!

This is something that I began 2 years ago, I just don't sweat the small stuff. The coffee would have tasted the same regardless where it was that I was drinking it.

Hi Kathy well even thou the ladies action was rude I totally agree - it's not getting nuts about and ruining your day.  The other day at a grocery store G spotted a parking spot up front.  We waited to turn in as others were coming and going.  And then low and behold a gal brings 2 shopping carts across the parking lot and deposits them in the parking spot we were waiting for - right in the middle of the spot.  Why on earth would anybody do this?  Who knows - but we found it interesting and moved the carts and parked!!!!

Morning Kathy.

I don't want to say I would blow a gasket, but there are some situations in which I would.  That case would not be one of them
