Monday Madness Motivational Reality Cartoon...

Ahhh, nothing like a truth-to- established-wisdom slap of reality on a Monday morning!

My Greek uncle had a saying: "Seeing and Doing".

There was always something to these aphorisms.  His take, who knows, may have been a quote from an ancient Greek philosopher, not sure.

But the general idea was that we need to observe the details of any particular situation, study the various paths that will lead to the intended goal, and then actually take the steps necessary to reach a particular outcome.

Those steps normally include education and training.

We tend to forget that anything in life worth pursuing requires effort.

And sustained effort is even more important.

Effort is made after knowledge is gained.

So one must LEARN what needs to be understood before tackling anything in life: love, business, well being, etc.

Skill is a result of learning and proper application.

Skill: "the ability to do something well; expertise."

Skill is honed into expertise.  It takes effort.

Nothing gets accomplished in a wish world...

So...

1. Observe

2. Prepare

3. Execute

4. Adjust and reapply

“Felix had gone to live in a lotus land of his imagination. Where what is desired is dreamed of as already happened, where obstacles dissolve under the weight of desire, and where reality has vanished entirely.”
― Iain Pears, The Dream of Scipio

“At a certain point, we have to stop ‘play time,’ start ‘construction time’ and get things going, instead of getting mired down in the quicksand of wishful thinking, clutching desperately to imaginary ‘dei ex machina.’ (" Swim or sink")”
― Erik Pevernagie

Good afternoon John Henry - yes I think that you pretty much covered it.  Now the execute may take time to get it right.  That is why they have apprenticeships in the trade.  Can't watch it on HGTV and go do it.

Agreed.  I just thought the cartoon was spot on and got me thinking!  Apprenticeships come after formal training.  Important to do in the right order!  Thanks, Grant Schneider

Hi John- would that we could twitch our noses and be what we wanted to be or do what we wanted to do. But...that's not the way of the world, is it?!  What makes someone good at what they do besides the innate talents they possess is the ability to learn, train, and practice and continue to do so every day.

I think we dream a little more than we should and act less...  It's just to easy to imagine something than work for it.  So much could be realized, potential realized, etc.   Thanks, Kathy Streib

Hello John = there's much truth to be found in the comics.

I've liked the comic writers who have poignant messages that deal with a wide range of topics.  Dilbert was good with business.  I liked the Wizard of Id a few years back.  For pure visual puniness, The Far Side was great.  Thanks, Michael Jacobs

Morning John.

What gets me going, is when one is taught the right way to get things done, then they do just the opposite.

I am not sure why that happens.  I think more often it occurs with someone who has done things their way for a long time and then you hire them to do things YOUR way.  And there is a communication problem...  Thanks, James Dray
