I Broke My Glasses

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Referral Group Incorporated

I wear progressive lenses and I broke my eye glasses last night. I believe my prescription is still fine but I have an appointment in early September. About a month ago I stopped into my place for an adjustment to my existing glasses which they no longer sell and can not service. A replacement even with my limited insurance was $500 plus. Can't see it, actually can't see much now from my old glasses. There must be a better way short of laser surgery. Bummed.

After decades of fighting changing prescriptions and growing cataracts, my wife is going in for laser surgery. We think the key is finding a great ophthalmologist who is interested in your long-term eye care and not the quick bucks from laser surgery.

I had laser surgery on my eyes around 15 years ago and I still see well enough to not have to wear glasses, although my sunglasses have a slight prescription that sharpens things up.

That's a bummer, Sheila. Glad you have a back-up pair. I lost my sunglasses with progressive lenses last month, so when I travel now I really should bring a back-up pair with me.

Hello Sheila - I wore contacts for many years after starting to wear glasses when I was eleven or twelve. Now I am back to glasses for distance.  As you know a back-up plan is a good idea.  For glasses and so much more.  I should take that advice more often in life.  Hmm.

Hi Sheila- I've been wearing contacts since I was 14 although I do have a back up pair of glasses if I can't wear my contacts. My nose bridge is so small that glasses keep slipping down and I can't breathe. Good luck with a new pair.

In addition to a pair of prescription glasses I wear for night driving, the only glasses I use are readers that I buy from the drug store.  They certainly make a difference in our lives.  I can't imagine being without them.

Hi Myrl. I was able to move my appointment up to next week and the glasses were repaired with glue and tape. Hopefully they will last until I get new ones. TY    Sheila

I started wearing glasses in the first grade. I've always hated them.

I got contacts in high school and loved not having to wear my very thick glasses.

Unfortunately I got shingles in my eye and now have a scar, dangerously close to my cornea. Contacts are no longer an option. Laser surgery isn't either.

The good news is that prescriptions have come a long way and my glasses, although thick, are not as bad as they once were back in the day. I don't mind wearing them anymore.

Hi Sharon. I don't mind wearing glasses. As a kid I didn't need them but always thought they were cool. Now the cost is just incredible. TY      Sheila

Oh, I'm so sorry, Sheila! I did that for years and finally bit the bullet and had laser surgery. I came to realize that the amount of money I was spending on glasses, contacts and eyecare insurance paid for the laser treatment several times over!

It's a hefty out-of-pocket if you pay it all upfront but, I can testify, well worth it!

BTW, 11 years later, I'm still finding lost glasses from when I needed them! LOL
