Watching the magical transformations of houses on shows such as Property Brothers and others on HGTV, it's easy to think that buying a fixer upper and doing (or contracting out) the work oneself will save one money.
But guess what?
According to a recent survey by www.Porch.com, a service that connects homeowners with contractors, there's a dirty little secret about fixer uppers that few talk about.
While it's true that most people may spend more initially for a move-in ready house, the sad truth is people spend more than that same amount of price difference to fix it up. And that's not talking about the personal supervision of contractors required nor the time it takes to get the work done.
