Pianfrancisco at Fort Point

What, one might ask, is Pianfrancisco?

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, in conjunction with PianFrancisco, Art in the Parks will be putting pianos in one of San Francisco's oldest and most iconic buildings, Fort Point.

Fort Point, nestled underneath the Golden Gate Bridge at the south anchorage of the bridge, dates back to just after the Civil War, and is now a National Historic Site.

Pianos have been placed in these barren corridors for the weekend, and free piano concerts are scheduled on Saturday August 24, 2019, 1:30 - 3:30 and Sunday August 25, 2019, 1:30 - 3:30.

Enjoy the classical music and listen to fascinating stories about Fort Point's past.

Entry to Point Point and the concerts is free. Remember that this area can be cold and windy and dress in warm layers and wear comfortable shoes.

Food and beverages other than water are not allowed inside the Fort, but the Warming Hut at Crissy Field is a short 10-minute walk.

Hi Lottie: I have seen outdoor displays of pianos while out and about.  One time a few years ago in Pasadena and then recently in Santa Monica.  Great fun and definitely attention-getting.

Good morning, Sheila Anderson and Michael Jacobs - I think this trend of music in outdoor settings has become quite popular. A similar event has been running for 5 years in the SF Botanical Gardens in Golden Gate Park.

Hello Barbara Todaro and Grant Schneider - I think piano music in that setting will be awesome. I can imagine the resonance in the brick corridors....

Hello Wayne Martin - I suspect I won't make it to hear the piano concerts this weekend--you know how our weekends get booked up!

Good morning Nina Hollander - a similar event, Flower Piano in Golden Gate Park has been gaining momentum every year for 5 years now. We'll see how this one does. I wish I could make it, but it's doubtful.

Fort Point isn't the most beautiful place in San Francisco, Sharon Lee, but one of the most historic with gorgeous 1860's brickwork.

Lottie I have been over the bridge several times, but was not aware of what was beneath it.

Fort Point is hidden away; unless you walk along Crissy Field, one rarely sees it. Original bridge plans called for its destruction, but other minds prevailed and the great brick work of the fortification is here to be enjoyed, George Souto

Good Morning Lottie Kendall - Fort Point would be a real thrill to experience no matter what type of weather occurs the day one gets there. How exciting that something that old underneath the Golden Gate Bridge could bring so much new life to people who enjoy piano music and to enjoy a completely different experience!

I love it!

My weekend was fully booked, Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP so I didn't get to Fort Point to enjoy the music. Maybe the event will be back again next year. Flower Piano in Golden Gate Park, a similar idea, had its 5th year in July.
