Saturday Smiles: Summer Bounty at the Santa Barbara Farmer's Market!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

Summer's bounty is continuing.  The melons are starting to show up at various stands. Pictured above is ambrosia melon.  Ambrosia melon should not to be confused with a cantaloupe, but it's quite different. Its flesh is very sweet, tender and pale orange in color with a flavor described as “a combination of all melons plus flowers.”

Strawberry varieties are plentiful.  We prefer the smaller ones, they usually are the sweetest.

Stone fruits also abound.  Elegant Lady peaches are an August peach.

Bitter melon was plentiful at the Asian specialties table. We have read that it has medical benefits, and thus far have not tried it.  The taste does not appeal to us, but we love the look and feel of it.

Rainbow carrots always catch out attention, especially when presented so beautifully.

And here is a new item from the organic honey stand. Probiotic are good for your digestive system according to many sources including WebMD.

Wishing you an abundance of Saturday Smiles, and a great weekend ahead.

I like melons but rarely buy them. Those strawberries just jump off the page. So yummy looking. I too like the looks of the bitter melon but don't that
I would like them. Love the rainbow carrots. Wishing you both a delightful Saturday.

Hi Ron and Alexandra- I'm still enjoying my peaches every day that I can. My grandmother grew bitter melon and did try it once. That's all it took. It's easy to see where it got its name.

I'm really fond of Ambrosia melon.  I came home from our local market with peaches, and plums today.  And, also, a couple large bunches of sweet basil and olive oil.  I stopped by our local KP International market on the way home and picked up pine nuts.  I'm going to make pesto tomorrow.

Myrl Jeffcoat we love the taste of Ambrosia also.  If I can find a small enough one, I buy it, otherwise it goes bad in our refrigerator.  You have me hungry for pesto.  A

I am thinking that bitter melon is an acquired taste.  But I am glad to see people buying it.  A

Sharon Lee even for the two of us, one normal melon is too big.  I like when they have little one, those are just right for both of us.  The smaller strawberries are delicious, no doubt about that.  A
