Useful Tips for Boosting Your Real Estate Company's Online Reputation

If you own a real estate agency, boosting your online presence is of the utmost importance. Here’s what you need to know about managing your online reputation.

While twenty years ago, a real estate agency’s reputation would likely be based on word-of-mouth opinions, today, it’s all about online presence. If you own or manage a real estate agency, here are several key tips for boosting and preserving your company’s reputation.

Start by knowing your business’s current reputation.

You’ll need to begin by doing an online search for your company. Search for your company’s name exactly, and see what comes up. There are several reasons for doing this.

For starters, you’ll want to see what online presence your real estate agency has in the first place. Do you have a website? A LinkedIn? A Facebook and/or Instagram account? Ideally, these sites will come up first.

Second, use a few keywords related to your company and location to see if your real estate agency’s website and/or social media sites come up first among the results. For example, if you own a real estate agency in Memphis, try searching:

“Memphis real estate agency”

“homes for sale in Memphis”

“Memphis real estate”

Finally, check out reviews. See if your agency is listed under any general review sites and what, if any, your reviews say. Are they positive? Negative? Somewhere in the middle?

Assess and respond to negative reviews, if possible.

Next, take a closer look at any negative reviews you’ve received. If you have any, what do they say? Is there any legitimacy to them? If so, these are things you’ll need to address.

You can start addressing them by writing responses to any negative reviews. For legitimate problems, work within your company to address the issues and resolve them so that you don’t get further negative reviews on the same matters.

Stay up to date with your social media sites.

Whether you have an overall negative, neutral, or positive reputation when you search your company online, you’ll always want to boost the amount of time you spend updating your social media pages.

Begin by checking out your profile pages, and make sure all of the necessary information is filled out. Next, figure out a way to keep adding content to each page on a daily basis. This can often be done in a blanket manner, meaning you can update one site, such as Instagram, and have that update be passed on to other sites, like Facebook and Twitter, automatically.

Use keywords on a regular basis.

If you noticed in the first step (when searching keywords related to your real estate company and location) that you didn’t get your own website or social media accounts as the first results, you’ll want to change this.

This can be done by adopting some relatively simple SEO practices.

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It generally means using keywords and keyword phrases that are linked to your business, industry, and location and using them more prominently on your website. For example, you can integrate keywords and keyword phrases into your website content and blog posts.

Consumers, including those looking to rent or buy homes, are using search sites like Google to see what real estate options are available in their geographic locations. This means that, first of all, your real estate company needs to be featured prominently on sites like Google.

But it also means that you need to be in control of your company’s online reputation. When consumers see information about your company, they need to see positive assessments and reviews. If you currently aren’t in control of your real estate agency’s reputation or need to improve it, use the tips listed above to do so.

I have a question for you.  I used to blog a lot more than I do now. In fact it's been 3 years since I've done anything with mine and I think I would like to relaunch it and enhance it...almost a like a mini website.  Since it's been inactive for so long, do you think it's ok to just pick up where I left off, or create a new one?
