Pickled mango - a summertime treat in Hawaii

When mangos start hanging heavy off the mango trees in Hawaii, thoughts turn to making pickled mango.

You can only eat so many fresh ones (and that's a lot of mangos), and what can you do with all the rest?

These were made in Haiku Maui and sold by the side of the road.  Just another great reason to live on Maui.

Barbara Todaro I think you could cut back on the sugar if you're using mangos that are a little riper.

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty  It's a seasonal thing, so you'll have to come in the summer!

Thanks for all the comments.

I eat mangoes almost every day, but I like them, as other fruit, on the harder side. That pickled mango recipe looks great....

Hi Georgie,  Mango is definitely a rare treat around here.  I have never tried one pickled though.  Maybe we'll have to try it this weekend.  Thanks.

Hi Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 - I do believe Pickled Mango would be an enjoyable treat for me!

As I stopped at the Farmer's Market the other day, I couldn't help but get more peaches because I was thinking the same thing... "you can eat only so many fresh ones..."

It would be fun to pull over the side of the road to get a refreshing pickled mango! Hawaii has so much to offer that's so unique, not available in Flower Mound.

Cheers to healthy and happy eating!!!
