September is one of the BEST months to visit NYC. The weather is usually fantastic, not too hot, but you can still dine outside on one of our amazing rooftops or patios. Sports buzz fills the air, including the US Open, Giants, Jets, Yankees and Mets. There are tons of Parades, fairs and festivals like the West Indian Day Parade, Feast of San Gennaro, African American Day Parade and many more. Here we highlight some of the best September Events in NYC.
September Parades in NYC
Labor Day Weekend in NYC always showcases one of the most vibrant and colorful parades of the year, the West Indian Parade in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Millions of people line up for miles to celebrate Caribbean culture, enjoy costumes and eat the food of Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, Barbados, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Jamaica, Saint Vincent and Grenada.
The actual Labor Day parade is held in NYC the weekend after Labor Day in midtown.
The annual Feast of San Gennaro is a celebration of all things Italian right in the heart Little Italy. Try the best sausage and pepper sandwich, judge the cannoli-eating competition and indulge in one of NYC's greatest traditions that kids and adults alike love. If you have kids, definitely try and get yourself a reservation at Puglia, where you stand on your chairs, wave your napkins and sing along to traditional tunes.
September Sports in NYC
Just as the temperature cools, the sports scene in NYC heats up big time! The whole city is abuzz with the US Open, cheering on Serena, Federer, Nadal and all the other greats. Football is in pre-season and the Yankees and Mets are hopefully winning their way to the playoffs. There is a major sporting event just about every day in NY in September.
Anniversary of 9-11
While there is much to celebrate in September in NYC, September 11 always comes with a solemn reminder that we shall never forget. The 9-11 Museum and Memorial are packed this time of year and everyone looks to the sky on September 11 to see the beautiful Tribute in Lights, which are two blue beams projected into the sky for 24 hours, in memory of the World Trade Centers and all the precious lives we lost that day.
September is Back to Broadway month in NYC and a ton of new shows premiere, setting the tone for the theater season. This is the one time of year where we love to get the hard copy newspaper and grab the Season of Savings book that arrives with the Sunday NY Times. The ballet, philharmonic, jazz and opera all kick off and the city comes alive with arts and culture.
Here we highlight some of the best things to do in September in NYC.
