New Public Art Project in Carlsbad
by Bryan Snyder
Bryan Snyder, a popular and well-known artist in Carlsbad, has done it again, with a new project in Carlsbad Village. He is already well known for the Carlsbad Art Wall at Senor Grubby’s on Carlsbad Village Drive (here’s the most recent art wall painted by Snyder himself in June 2019 - click photo to link to the article).
This new interactive art project – more on that in a minute – is on the west wall of the Café Ground Up at 550 Grand Avenue in the heart of downtown. Like the Carlsbad Art Wall, the owner was happy to have Snyder’s creation on the building. I personally haven't been to this Italian cafe yet but it's definitely on the list of Must Do's!
Snyder’s art project called “Doodle’s Umbrella” was created early this month, and the main character, Doodle, was a creation during Snyder’s childhood. In addition to Doodle painted on the wall, this interactive art work is 3D and includes an umbrella attached to the wall, and 2 pots of flowers – one perched on top of the umbrella and one on the ground.

Sorry about the shadow – it was that time of day and it was purely unintentional – but I suppose it looks a little like rain!
Anyone who is interested can visit Café Ground Up (with seating indoors and out) and get a watering can (painted by Snyder), fill it with water and take care of the flowers. Hopefully they won't get over-watered!
What a neat way to get the community engaged with public art besides just viewing it. I wonder if other flowers pots will be added?!
