Did you ever have one of those days where you're driving around with a couple of buyer clients, that you hardly know, and you're supposed to be somewhere for signing, but everything is going wrong? Nothing is working out right. You can remember the name of the listing agent but you can’t remember the address of the listing that they're buying. All you can remember is a vague description of it and where it is. How could you forget?
You pull into this residence where the listing agent is supposed to be because you’re going to meet her. It’s a multi million dollar listing with a beautiful home and pool and extensive grounds, and it looks like this fancy place is preparing for a big event, a garden party. People are arriving all dressed up and it’s gonna be one hell of a shindig.
You find the hostess inside and she looks you up and down like you’re woefully out of place and underdressed. You explain that you are doing a transaction with your clients and you’re looking for the listing agent. She looks down her nose at you and says "Is this your first transaction?" Huh?
You say who you are and at least you can remember your license number, but of course you can’t find a business card because all of a sudden they’ve disappeared from where they should be, as you fumble around in your bag. You mention the other agents name and the hostess looks at you icily and says "Oh she’s out of the country - didn’t you know that?" And you want to just explain the whole situation but you can’t even remember the address of the property in question, and your clients are looking at you like who is this agent we're with?
Then the hostess says "I think you'd better leave because we’re just about to start watching the game." They're kicking you out! So of course you and your clients gracefully exit, and you’re scratching your head wondering what the hell is going on here, as you walk across the extensive lawn.
You say "Well why don’t we just give escrow a call then?" while trying to act nonchalant about it all. Of course what a great idea, but hold on, you can’t even remember which title company is handling this sale...and your cell phone has gone nutty... and you’re unable to bring up any info at all on the screen... and...what the hell is going on!?
And then you wake up! Happy Labor Day.
