Getting Rid of That Smoke Smell

Real Estate Technology with Zurple

You know what one of the biggest home buyer turnoffs is? Funny odors.

If your sellers happen to be smokers, we hope they only smoked outdoors - otherwise you'll need to find a solution to get rid of the scent of tobacco (or other substances).

Here are a few ideas to get rid of that smell:

1. Ozone Machine

Most carpet cleaning companies should have one, and this should be able to get rid of that smell.

2. New Paint Job

Although paint is an noxious smell unto itself, it can mask the smell of smoke. Another added bonus is that it refreshes the look of the home and can increase a home's value.

3. Replace The Carpets

Another renovation project that can yield a return on investment.

4. Scented Candles

You can always mask the smell with another smell - just test it out first before you do. Otherwise the home may smell like a mix of marlboro and pumpkin spice.

What is YOUR usual go-to method of removing smells from a home?

Being an ex-smoker, I agree that all of these remedies are effective although when they're not it's time to remove & replace the drywall also. Unfortunately the leeching effect of cigarette, pipe and cigar smoke odors have limitless boundaries.
