You might have read a recent article by Ben Ingram for LinkedIn entitled, "LinkedIn Top Startups 2019: the fifty hottest US companies to work for now." If it passed you by, the above link will take you to the article, an interesting read. At the bottom of the article, you'll find the complete methodology they used.
As a Realtor I'm often asked if our real estate market remains strong. National news might indicate a softening in the market, but except for the highest end properties, I haven't seen signs of a slow down here. So I read the report with great interest, and here's what I see:
I looked at the location of the top 50; 2 of them had multiple headquarter locations, so I focused on the remaining 48. Of those:
- 33 are headquartered in California
- 29 are headquartered in northern California
- 15 are headquartered in San Francisco
- 9 are headquartered in Santa Clara County (Silicon Valley)
- 4 are headquartered in San Mateo County (nestled between San Francisco and Silicon Valley)
Of the remaining 15 hot US companies;
- 8 are headquartered in New York
- 3 are headquartered in the state of Washington
- 1 each headquartered in Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts and Texas
The number 1 spot goes to Snowflake Computer Software, based in San Mateo, California. LinkedIn's write-up for Snowflake follows:
"U.S. headcount: 1,065 | Headquarters: San Mateo, Calif. | Year founded: 2012 | Most common skills: Cloud Computing, Analytics, Data Warehousing | Largest job functions: Sales, Engineering, Business Development | What you should know: Snowflake, which helps companies move their data to the cloud, is flying high. The startup nearly tripled its employee count, grew revenue by 257% and doubled its valuation to $3.9 billion over its last fiscal year. That growth isn’t slowing: Snowflake has over 85 jobs now open, with a focus on adding to its engineering and sales teams."
Of special interest to me is that Compass the New York based real estate firm with which I am affiliated, ranked number 8 out of the 50.
"U.S. headcount: 2,300 | Headquarters: New York City | Year founded: 2012 | Most common skills: Investment Properties, Real Estate Transactions, Sellers | Largest job functions: Real Estate, Finance, Marketing | What you should know: Those with an entrepreneurial mindset will thrive at Compass, a real estate technology company and the country’s third-largest brokerage. That goes for its agents, as well as the hundreds of people Compass is looking to hire across its product and engineering teams over the next year to help build its end-to-end software platform. “Look through your LinkedIn network to see if you're connected to anyone who works at Compass,” says Margaret Smith, head of talent. “Reaching out to them to get their insight and perspective is important. They may refer you if you show enough initiative."
