The Changing Face of Carlsbad Village

A New Hotel on Carlsbad Boulevard

Carlsbad Village continues to change, and not surprisingly given the economy but also the popularity year-round of our seaside town in North San Diego County.

SpringHIll Suites Hotel by Marriott in Carlsbad Village

Out for a morning walk after breakfast in the Village at Cafe Elysa, we went our usual route along the Coast Road with terrific beach and ocean views, and walked by the new Marriott Hotel (SpringHill Suites) being built across the street from the ocean.

I still haven't gotten used to the idea, despite driving or walking by often over the last several years it's been in the construction phase. This 104-room hotel takes the place of the Armenian Cafe, part of the face of Carlsbad Village for 27 years, and the Surf Motel.

Residential construction has been steady, too, beginning in 2015 and 2016 with new townhomes at SummerHouse and Seagrove, and the recently completed (and almost sold out, with 2 remaining) single-story luxury condos at Grand Madision.

And it continues with new construction condos and townhomes and more in process at Madison Walk, BeachWalk, Carlyle Carlsbad Village, and other small enclaves of new town homes near the Village or the ocean (prices range from the $600s to the $2.8 millions) now selling.

Jeff,

Progress keeps going and going. Hopefully congestion in the streets won't spoil the charm of your beautiful area.  A

Jeff, Marriott is an excellent hotel chain.  This should be a big benefit to your area.

It does indeed. On the one hand we need more residential and commercial space, and no doubt the town will benefit, but sometimes it’s hard to see the changes. The City has been working on modifications to their overall plan for development and hopefully everything is being done in a planful way, especially with regard to traffic and parking.

I hope so, too Grant Schneider . There are other changes afoot that I know about, too!

Hi George Souto

I’ve stayed in plenty of Marriotts over the years, although not this particular brand. Certainly some rooms are going to have some wonderful views, and it right on the edge of the downtown area - no car needed!

Hi Nina Hollander

Well, from all I have heard Charlotte is really booming. And I have certainly seen lots of building in other areas where I have traveled.

Jeff - I feel your pain. We love Delray Beach (even though we left) but it is suffering some growing pains and progress. When we left a huge iPic was going up a block off Atlantic Avenue. Residents were concerned about the traffic and parking.

Selling Homes Changing Lives

Jeff Dowler, CRS - As an aging Nation, construction is everyone, including Flower Mound. Infrastructure definitely needs it. New buildings/hotels? It's a change from the familiar. I think what sells Carlsbad is its views. I hope that is something that doesn't change, especially for those who have enjoyed it without living in high rises.

It is always sad to see businesses go away that we always enjoyed, especially when they are small-town Mom and Pop operations.
