Is It a Recession or a Squirrel?

People ask me all the time, "Will the Silicon Valley real estate market go up or down?" Like my late mother, super-agent Judy Carr, I answer with her same response, "Yes!"

That said, how many agents have been fielding the question, "Is the real estate market going to collapse?" Or "Are we headed for another housing crisis of 2008?"

Here are 3 things I'm doing differently in the fall of 2019 and in the upcoming year of 2020 to help educate current and future clients that I haven’t done in the last 5 years.

1) Making regular client calls or in person visits every working day. First, checking on how happy my clients are, and second, offering my help to them and the people they know who need real estate expertise.

2) Educating clients about market challenges, market updates, and unique opportunities through my blog posts and FaceBook pages.

3) Building a Five Star Referral Center for 2020 that is strictly word of mouth and built directly upon the personal experiences of my clients and team members with local businesses.

By initiating telephone and face-to-face conversations, blogging directly about questions such as “Are we in a recession now or do you expect we’re approaching one?”, and building a specialized and personally vetted referral resource, it helps clients to expereience how I and my team work differently from discount or "App Agents" and creates trust and a real relationship with me and my team.

I'll leave you with this thought.

Have you ever been driving along the freeway and suddenly come upon a slowdown and when you get to the spot, there's no sign of anything actually happening there? No accident, no police, not even skid marks. Whatever caused the problem (and it may have been a squirrel running across the road), it's not there now.

That's how I feel right now about the question, "Is it a recession or a squirrel?"

Hi Michelle,
We each have to decide how to deal with the local "squirrels", don't we? Keeping people informed will go a long ways in letting people know what's actually happening locally instead of listening to some national talking heads that like to sensationalize everything.

Great post Michelle Carr Crowe,Altas Just Call...408-252-8900! !!  I have often  used the phrase SQUIRREL this past few years as well as with the R word being used incessantly. Snore.  Now back to our regularily schedule busy - doing our business as we best see fit and moving past those squirrels!

Love that answer, "Yes."   Have been sending articles to a Client who needs a larger condo but keeps reading about the squirrel (oh - no, that other word!).
Anyway - plan to send the link to this post to him! All the best - Lynn

Michelle, I love the analogy! The news says we're heading for a recession. The Mortgage Bankers association says we're going to have the best year ever.

I learned a long time ago ... the market is like a wave.  Up and down ... good and bad.  The trick is to prepare and learn to take advantage of the good times so you can survive the bad ...

Wise advice, Michelle. I especially like your freeway analogy...it’s so appropriate. I think keeping clients educated and informed is one of the best things we can do on an ongoing basis!

Excellent post!  Facts trump fear.  And you are being proactive.  Great.  This last week seemed like the onset of a downturn in the stock market, which for many is a harbinger for the economy in general.  Two days down about 600 points.  And then recovery yesterday and today.  We are getting a bit sensitive over things that are not necessarily true or with a solid basis.  Thank you!

Hi Michelle Carr Crowe,Altas Just Call...408-252-8900! - You provide sound advice and you are a wise woman! I like the plan you created. I have been told that the number one reason why previous clients don't call their Agent is that they stopped communicating. When you speak the truth and calm their fears you have gained their trust. I highly recommend anyone in your area hearing rumors to contact you to hear the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

P.S. Your Title and blog post was terrific!
