Never Forget 9/11

Chalk Art Memory of 9/11 in Carlsbad
I know exactly where I was when I first heard about what happened on 9/11. Do you? The emotions well up every time I think about that horrific time, now 18 years ago!
When I first heard the news about a plane hitting the Twin Towers, I was working at a small Internet marketing company, HookMedia, in downtown Boston. The company had gone Chapter 11 due to the dot com melt-down, and was sold to an international media conglomerate.
As VP of Human Resources I was the last official employee, with the responsibility for closing out the company by retrieving and reviewing all creditors’ records. It was painful and emotional, given I was hired in 1999 as the 6th employee, and had hired about 125 people in a little over a year and opened 2 additional offices in Atlanta and New York City.
The initial information was sketchy and I did not learn much more until I got home and planted myself in front of the TV with my college-age daughter for hours. What an awful day for America!!
The vivid memory of watching the live coverage of the one tower collapsing on TV will always remain, as will all the heroic stories, and the sheer horror of the thousands of lives lost, including first responders, firefighters and so many more. And many of them are still suffering health-wise, and some have died.
How will you be remembering?!
