More sympathy for home sellers.

Real Estate Agent with HomeSmart SA541769000

It has been quite a few years since I last sold one of my personal properties. But recently my wife and I decided to sell our long-time home and downsize. Like a lot of people we have become empty nesters and no longer need the added expense or maintenance of a large house on a large lot.

As a real estate agent, I often sit down with clients that are considering selling their current home for a variety of reasons. When I do I walk around to assess the property both for condition and market readiness. Typically I will give the client a list of items that should be cared for prior to putting on the market. It may be as simple as cleaning & de-cluttering, etc. Or as complex as repairing leaking windows, replacing broken tiles, painting, carpeting or other items that may turn a potential buyer off.

As someone that has spent the last few weeks preparing my own home, I have developed new sympathy for the seller.

I never realized how involved it has become. Cleaning carpets, washing windows, trimming trees, emptying out closets and more. We are exhausted.

Staging, pictures, paperwork, advertising, etc. It seems it is never going to end.

But it will end. Hopefully with a solid sale and a happy new buyer.

Selling a house is a lot of work. Thoughts and prayers to the seller.

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing about the experience of selling in today's market. The preparations are much more exhausting than years ago.

Joseph, I sold my residence last year after 17 years in the home.  We all should move every few years, so we KNOW what we put our clients through.  Good luck.

So very true, Joseph. It is an exhausting ordeal, and for many, emotionally exhausting. It is important to have empathy for our sellers.   D

Hi Joseph Domino 480-390-6011 oh how I understand recently! We've been thinking of rightsizing (pool and huge yard) for at least a year.  My husband almost accepted another position taking us out of state this spring. My head was working on getting everything ready.  And then......we made a choice to stay put and glad we did.  Best of luck for a quick sale.....and let me know what area you moved to! Maybe we're next......some day!!

Joseph- LOL- it's probably a good idea for agents and stagers to move at least once or twice so they'll remember what a true pain it can be. Having just moved back to Houston earlier this year, I am a huge proponent of don't wait until you move!!!
