Call it a day - This week is in the Books

By

On the 7th day he rested. Well, I need to adjust that to... I am resting now that it is 7pm and Sunday is over. I usually would not be posting on a Sunday night, but I met two of the most opposite home sellers late today, and just could not wait to share the stories.

I got a unique call  this afternoon where the seller was ready to sell. NOW. and yes that is a big NOW. He demanded that I come over right away if I wanted to list his home. He was already tired of agents not answering their phone. But wait, I answered my phone. He paused and then said yes I did, now am I coming? I told him it would take a half hour to get there. I needed his address and some time to research some comps. I pulled the tax card and old MLS listings as well. I do not like going to any appointment unless i am loaded with information.

While I was printing it off, the phone rang again. In a soft voice, the lady asked if I could help her list her home. But not today, it was Sunday and she did not expect me to work. We spoke for a while longer. She was so pleasant and upbeat. We agreed I would come Monday, because her daughter works today but has Monday off.

SO what is strange about these calls. The man from the first call is the one who called his neighbor to list with me. Telling her how quick I worked and how nice I was. I dont think he wanted me to see his soft side. Because I went to his home, I asked lots of questions and so did he. He tried to be tough on me, but I passed his tests he said.

In the end, I got to DVR the Patriots game and watching the end now. I got his listing and passed his tests. I also earned his trust early enough to get a referral. You know... all cause I answered my phone on a Sunday. AND... knew the right answers to their questions. I need a day between Sunday and Monday.

My infamous message is do not hire just anyone to list you home. Do not just hire the biggest company or agent. Take time to hire the BEST agent. The way I do business is to offer some of the best possible personal and professional service. To stand by them through each step of the buying and selling process. Let me show you the right agent CAN make a difference.

Good morning Scott. It pays to answer the phone, no doubt! But, it is how you respond that gets the deal. Enjoy your day!

Good morning, Scott... I'm always astounded by how many people are surprised when I actually answer my phone (even on a week day!). Not sure what this says about our profession... but it's not good.

Exactly on both thoughts Wayne Martin and a puzzle how many times callers say they have called countless people with no answer

People are getting more demanding these days. How nice that you found one person that was willing to wait for you. I know that wasn't the point, though. ;)

I love that, Scott and like you, I hear the complaints all of the time that I was the first agent out of X who actually answered the phone. Our competitors make the competition so darned easy, don't they?!!

Congratulations on the listings and I do hope you landed the other one yesterday - well, I'm positive you did! What a lovely lady, realizing that it was Sunday and she didn't want you working.

I also get the comment, "Oh my! I didn't mean to bother you - I thought since it was after-hours, I would get an answering service (or your voice mail)!" Again, like you, I love to start out on the right foot!
