Walter Henry Deubener was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota back in 1885/87, the records I found indicate either date. In any respect, I could not find who his parents were, where he attended school, if he graduated or much of anything about him until the early 1900’s. By then he was married to Lydia.
He and his wife owned and operated a grocery store. He noticed something that would rewrite history and of course his soon to be fortune. He and Lydia made 50 of his inventions selling them for $0.05 per item. In 1927, they applied for a patent, it was issued in 1929 # 1713747. With their fortune, they sold the store and lived off the royalties inviting all of the local people from Lake Gearge, Minnesota during the summer to their estate. They would serve hot dogs, hamburgers and cut watermelons on a daily basis.
What you may not know about Walter is that he invented was the first shopping bag. He took an ordinary paper sack, punched holes hear the top and attached strings to it. Someone had to come up with the idea, now you know who it was. He died in 19080, he was 93.
