Learning by doing. This is the way that Vortex FDC started to work with big clients. Vortex is an online atmospheric modeling service that provides data to the technical Wind and Site departments to have global estimations of wind at places or periods. Basically, it’s a wind resource data for the wind industry. Vortex started its technology development in 2007 by a team is composed of experts in the renewable industry and meteorological modeling area. Vortex is a private enterprise owned by its members and independent of big enterprises who are the most common in the sector . They have developed their own methodology thanks to this: their independance.
The most interesting thing about this project is that the products have been designed after intensive dialog with the wind industry and their clients. The open business model they have benefited from the feedback of their clients.
But, why this project is different? The most distinctive feature of the Vortex offering within the modeling market is an on-demand approach: clients have their data with a couple of clicks on the web and the results only exist after this request. They don’t need credentials from the client to make an approach to the data and clients can test the product before contract and, because the results, they trust them. Within this framework, more than 400 checkpoints worldwide have been tested.
The benefits of not having closed data is that results restrict to the client's area of interest and, the most important: modeling is performed by the best available technology which, in this field, changes very fast. Plus, thanks to their backend, errors are detected faster!
Working on digital projects have this main thing: your work has to change every time the technology does and your team has to be open-minded to change their workflow in order to adapt. Only businesses to think digitally will survive to changes. That’s why we think Vortex’s work on-demand is the way to digital business.
