Motivational Monday - Happiness Is…
How many times have we asked or been asked, “Does he (or she) make you happy?”
If someone else has the capability to make you feel happy, then that person may also make you feel sad…right? Well, believe it or not, this is a common misconception about human psychology.
The use of phrases like, “You make me happy!” are certainly very colorful but, they imply that the responsibility for your own happiness lies outside of you - in the hands of others. Your mental state should never be controlled by another person’s actions.
The truth is, people or things cannot cause happiness at all.
It’s what your thoughts are about the person and the things that they say and/or do that determines whether you feel happy (or sad). Your thoughts — not external events, the presence or absence of material objects, or other people — create your feelings.
REMEMBER: No one can make you feel anything. Your feelings are your own. Therefore, the only person who has the power to make that distinction is the person who owns the feelings — you.
The good news is that we are never too old to accept this truth and dig deep within to seek our own happiness. Stop waiting for circumstances to change — do something about it — yourself!
No matter what life brings, you are, and always will be, in control of your own happiness.
