Wordless Wednesday...Go Hibernate...Please!

After moving to Houston, Larry and I found a wonderful preserve just a few minutes from the house. It’s wooded with paved paths that wide enough for walkers, runners, and bicycles.

However, enough is enough!  The other day we saw our fifth venomous snake while we were out walking. It was a coral snake...you know...red yellow, kill a fellow!

Larry kept telling me I could get closer to get a better picture! HA! He also said that it was a pretty good-sized snake.

Sorry but if you say good and snake in the same sentence, you better have dead in there somewhere!

Please...go hibernate!!!

Hello Kathy,  Sorry I would be running the oppisite way of this snake.  Almost bit by a rattle snake when I was 22, so not found of snakes.

I am ok with spiders but snakes and especially a coral snake gives me the willies.

Good morning Kathy. I wouldn't go back to that snake place. The photo Donald shared would had me running too.

I used to put grass snakes in my pocket as a kid but since I don't know which ones are poisonous with the exception of rattler's then I would steer clear of any I were to see.

Kathy we have run across snakes from time to time in our preserve when out hiking.  That's why I quit wearing a headset years ago so I could hear the rattle and stay clear.  I stay far away.....like you!

Wayne Martin I'm with you!!! I don't like them.

Michael Jacobs Actually it's ok as long as we watch where we walk, and trust me, I keep my eyes open.

Barbara Todaro I'll leave them for you to toss away. I'm running the other way.

Nina Hollander I've gotten better especially after going down to Larry's hunting lease. But I could go the rest of my life without ever seeing one.

Kat Palmiotti We thought so as well. I grew up here, went camping and still never saw that many. PS love your new profile photo.

Yikes Scott Godzyk I would shy away after being bitten as well.

Donald Urschalitz I'm happy to let them alone as long as they stay out of my way!  That picture makes my toes curl.

Joan Cox are there snakes in Colorado??? Too cold maybe??

Lottie Kendall my biggest surprise is that we've seen so many of them.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel LOL you guys are probably on to something!!! I have sworn off walking on the unpaved path and am sticking with the paved path. At least I can see the snakes.

I hear you Will Hamm On one of my first Girl Scout camping trips we saw 5 snakes!

Joe Pryor And the problem is, if you're walking on the grass and not looking where you walk, you could step right on one.

Sheila Anderson I can't even look at his photo!!!

Good point George Souto I'm the one who had to get out of the truck at the deer lease to open the gates and almost stepped on a coral snake.

Sharon Lee I've never like creepy crawly things.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® When we used to go fishing, I was afraid a snake would fall out of the tree into our boat.

Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886 I cringe when I see some of the joggers or walkers go off the paved area onto the grass. Those snakes can't be seen in the grass.

Morning Kathy.

While I know they keep the rodent population down, in my opinion the only "good snake, is a dead one".

Take care and be alert for snakes when you are out for a walk. They just want to be left alone.

Kathy:

Yikes, that would keep ME away. "Good" and "Snake" never belong in the same sentence, unless it's good the snake slithered away. UGH.

We do get rattlesnakes on the hiking trails in our area, especially in the summer so you have to watch out!!

I don't think I've ever seen a dangerous snake. The harmless little ones terrify me. LOL

If I see a snake, I quickly head the other direction. I never stick around long enough to figure out what kind it is... not that I'd know unless it rattles.

I totally agree with:
"Sorry but if you say good and snake in the same sentence, you better have dead in there somewhere!"
