There are plenty of reasons why many of you THRIVE as real estate agents. You have very specific characteristics that make you unique, but also contribute to your success. But like Icarus learning how to fly, your strengths might also be the reason for your downfall if you are not careful.
Here are a few strengths that can also be weaknesses:
1. Your Passion
Be careful that your passion to help others, and knowing what is best for home buyers and sellers can also be misconstrued as agressiveness. Persistence is a key factor to being successful, but you should also be aware of when it is okay to ease up a little.
2. Your Competetive Nature
You want to be the best, but sometimes this need can step on other people's toes. Don't be known as "that agent", because your competition are also your peers. You can improve your skillset by mentoring new agents.
3. Honesty
Being candid is what your clients NEED, but being frank is not necessarily what they want. Learn how to tactfully deliver bad news, and always offer options on how to proceed.
4. Being Empathetic
You always need to be able to connect with real estate leads and clients on a personal level. Nobody will work with anybody they don't like. Don't let this ruin your comission check though! At the end of the day you still need to pay your bills. So be careful about giving away free services or heavily discounting your comission. Learn how to say "no".
5. Your Attention to Detail
It's always good to dot your i's and cross your t's. However, don't get bogged down by all those details. Minor things like the color of your website, the photo used on your Facebook page, might not be noticed in the long run for people searching for active listings.
