CRS is one of the most valuable designations one can earn..... and it's "earned" .... not just a fee ....

Designations or Alphabet Soup?
CRS Means Education Nearby Our Names

Designations or alphabet Soup?
What do you think of when you see LOTS of initials after the names of Agents? Some are commonly known such as MA or MBA - Master's Degrees. For the Real Estate community, there are many others including ABR, AHWD, ALC, BPOR, CCIM, CIPS, CPM, CRB, CRE, C-RETS, e-PRO, GAA, GREEN, GRI, MRP, PMN, PSA, RAA, RENE, RCE, RSPS, SIOR, SFR, SRS and SRES. Hmmm, how many is too many after one's name?

Jeff Dowler, CRS once told me that for referals, he always goes to his Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) Directory first. He explained that when a real estate professional earned that Designation, he was confident in reaching out to them wherever they were located. And Jeff is known throughout AR as the "Southern California Relocation Dude"!

Being up-to-date on a variety of topics is crucial to a professional delivering excellent Client service. In fact, having earned the CRS, membership currently includes access to Inman Select News. By reading entries on Inman, agents can access cutting-edge information.

Although membership requires an annual fee and Continuing Education, many discounts are available to members as well as access to other benefits. Your CRS Designation includes benefits from a Credit UnionAffinity Insurance and Travel Agency Discounts with membership.

Most real estate professionals must take continuing  Education courses although what is required may vary by each state. CRS members may take discounted classes to meet those requirements. Often the annual fee is balanced out by savings on required classes.

BTW

The Real Estate Negotiation Institute offers another important Designation, MCNE, which follows the names of AR members Sheri Sperry - MCNE® and Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland. Margaret said she found that the training very valuable. Another good opportunity to check out...

The public? How many real estate professionals even know them?  I, for one, don't want all the designations I have after my name. For the CRS, one must have a certain number of years working, a certain number of Client representations, many hours of classes - some in person - and Continuing Education! Before entering the Real Estate field, I earned both a B.A. and M.A. The CRS was a similar amount of work to the M.A. to be sure.  Happy to say, after the extensive work, I only have two classes left to get my CRS. That will be enough alphabet soup for me -- no need to post the other five or six after my name! All the best - Lynn

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 I was at a builder's meeting helping the builder figure out the rafter line length needed because he forgot his rafter book.... and out of nowhere, the wife asks what CRS means...and before I could give the answer she blurts out Can't Remember Shit??   btw, that wasn't a high end home buyer nor were they my favorite new home buyers... the buyer agent was mortified!!!

The best part od the designations is the education that you receive from taking these classes. Not sure if they mean to much to the public.

The CRS designation is the hardest of any of the designations I have gone after however it’s the one that means the most and has been the most productive for me. Thank you for sharing this re-blog with us Barbara Todaro

Barbara, I signed up for all 5 webinars this week, never got an email with the log in info.   No one returned my call or emails.    Disappointed as these topics sounded very interesting.

Barbara,

Nice blog to share.  However, we have never been fans of designations and alphabet soup.  Even our friends who have PhD's do not use them, nor those who have MBA's.  You can have all those designations and there is no guarantee that at the end of the day, you don't know what you are talking about in both categories...A

Morning Barbara

The only designation that holds water in my area is principal broker, or executive broker.  People just don't care, or even notice the rest.
