Almost Speechless Sunday: Tuberous Begonias!

One of my favorite flowers are tuberous begonias.  Their colors are always bright and pure. I found these orange ones as I was roaming around Island View Nursery in Carpinteria looking for a replacement for one of our outdoor pots.

Here is some information from Wiki on these:

Tuberous begonias are a group of Begonia cultivars, regarded as some of the most spectacular of the genus. One of the first hybrids produced was B. x sedenii in 1870, a cross between B. boliviensis, collected by botanist Richard Pearce and a species from the Andes. Wikipedia

And these vivid red ones also caught my attention as they glowed on the table! And, I did not buy any, nor did I find the perfect replacement plant.  I did enjoy my visit to Island View Nursery, and not doubt will return there!

Wishing you all a delightful Sunday and a great week ahead.

Such a lovely flower, Alexandra... and both colors are stunning... I'd have to really struggle picking a favorite. But that being said, there is something very special about the orange.

Sheila Anderson There are even different species of these that are more showy if you can imagine that.  These are truly amazing.

The colors are so vivid, especially the red...I would have a tough tme choosing! The top one, though, is a good Fall color.

Jeff Dowler, CRS I agree with you, and there were others.  Those two were the most vivid of the batches.  A

Ron and Alexandra- those colors are so vibrant!!!! While living in Florida, I lost focus on any plant or flowers other than orchids. So now that I am back in Houston, I'm reacquainting myself with plants such as the begonia.

Morning Alexandra.

I'll take your word for what they are called.  My wife has pulled up a lot of flowers that has died.  The leaves are starting to turn color and fall around here

Begonias are always pretty, and also pretty easy to propogate from a cutting.

Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 perhaps I am missing information, but these are grown from a tuber that looks like a small flattened bulb.  To my limited knowledge you cannot propagate them from a cutting.  A

... Oh, then maybe it was some other type of begonias I am thinking of.  But then again, in Haiku almost anything will grow if given a chance, and many things will just sprout roots if tossed in shady spot on the ground.

While I love pinks and reds, the orange is such a striking color of begonia, Alexandra. They're beautiful no matter what color though!
