When you’ve made the decision to move your family to a new location, you may have to “sell” your kids on the idea, so they can be as excited as you. If you’ve chosen Carlsbad as your new family home, you’re in luck…there are so many places to visit and explore, your kids will be impatiently waiting for the moving truck to show up at the house. In case you need a little help convincing them, we’ve curated a family friendly list of Carlsbad’s top activities.

Beaches – Carlsbad’s seven miles of coastline are ideal for hiking, swimming, birdwatching, diving, surfing and sunning. Explore them all to find out which ones your family likes the best. And as your kids get older, they may want to join the Carlsbad Junior Lifeguard Program.

LEGOLAND California – You can spend a super fun day out exploring these little bricks in all their glory. The park has rides, interactive activities, iconic LEGO displays, live shows and attractions. You can stay overnight at the LEGOLAND Hotel if you decide to make a weekend out of it, or you can buy a season pass and go as often as you’d like!

SEA LIFE Aquarium – Adjacent to LEGOLAND is SEA LIFE at LEGOLAND California Resort. This is a 20,000-square-foot indoor aquarium where kids can view sea turtles, stingrays, sea horses and thousands of other colorful fish and animals.

The Train – Kids love to ride the train! Simply hop on the Coaster commuter rail at Carlsbad Village Station or the Carlsbad Poinsettia Station and go north or south for a few stops. You can get off, grab lunch and ice cream and then make your way home again.

The Flower Fields – During the spring, the Carlsbad Flower Fields burst into spectacular color boasting their famous collection of ranunculus. From mid-March to mid-May nearly 50 acres of different colored blooms bring this area to life and announce brightly that spring has arrived in Southern California!

Watersports on the Lagoon – Carlsbad Lagoon offers many different rentals for a fun day on the water from WaveRunners, paddle boards, kayaks, Aqua Cycles, power boats and more. During the summer they offer a kids’ camp.

Carlsbad Skate Park – If your city is famous for Tony Hawk, then it’s only natural to have a skate park in town. In fact, there are a bunch! The Carlsbad Skate Park is recommended for all levels of ability but a good place for beginners. This lighted facility is open daily and free to use.

In Carlsbad, Cornerstone Communities has built The Preserve with four neighborhoods that range from 1,600+ square-foot townhome communities to 2,400+ square-foot single family detached homes. Over half of 156 acres within the boundaries of The Preserve are dedicated to open space and trails that link to the adjacent Buena Vista Creek Ecological Reserve.

Once you unpack your new Carlsbad home, there will be no shortage of places to go and things to do for you and your family in the immediate area.
